Developers from CCP Games to wrestle MMA fighter during Eve Fanfest

This year's Eve Fanfest, the annual celebration of all things Eve, will include an event called "Eve of Destruction" in which 10 developers from CCP Games will face off against mixed martial arts fighter Gunnar Nelson, the studio announced today. World of Darkness developer CCP sees $21 million loss in 2013 fiscal year

CCP, the developer best known for Space-faring Eve Online and the recently canceled massively multiplayer game World of Darkness, recorded a loss of over $21 million during the financial year 2013. The company's full financial presentation notes a drop in profit of $4.3 million from the year before, while revenues saw a rise of $76.7 million from $56.3 million. It is believed that the primary reason for a drop in profit is an increase in research and development costs which jumped from $16.5 million in 2012 to $56.5 million in the next financial year. This is likely to do with costs related to the development of Eve Valkyrie and Dust 514, as well as the now-canceled World of Darkness. "During the year the company assessed its capitalized development assets and determined that a...

How Dust 514's races influence weapon design

Dust 514 developer CCP Games discussed two new weapons being added to the PlayStation 3 first-person shooter in the upcoming 1.7 update today, and touched on the difficulties of creating unique weapons for the game's four races. The Minmatar combat rifle is a gas-operated gun suitable for close- and medium-range combat. It's available with a three-round burst and an ACOG scope, while another version goes fully automatic with iron sights. Meanwhile, the Caldari rail rifle is a slow-firing gun that must be briefly charged prior to firing. Developers from CCP explained in a blog post that one of the most challenging parts of designing weapons for four different races (the other two are Amarr and Gallente) is "interpreting established conventions for these racial weapons in a way that...
