Earth Defense Force 2025 release date slips a bit, new soldier class revealed

Over in Japan, D3 Publisher announced in the pages of Famitsu magazine that Earth Defense Force 2025, latest in their series of humans-vs.-aliens destroyathons, is coming out a tad later than expected. Originally planned for a June release on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the game will now come out July in Japan on both consoles at a price of 6,980 yen. The news isn't all bad for fans, though. Earth Defense Force 4 coming to North America in 2013 as EDF 2025

D3Publisher will bring Sandlot's bug-slaying and alien-crushing action game Earth Defense Force 4 to North America sometime next year under the name Earth Defense Force 2025. Players will have the option of saving the planet from total destruction on either the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 in 2013, taking down giant creatures amid huge explosions and B-movie caliber dialogue. Earth Defense Force 2025 offers a variety of classes, including the traditional on-foot soldier and the flying Pale Wing, and dozens of weapons to choose from. We had a chance to go hands-on with Earth Defense Force 2025 during Tokyo Game Show this year. You can read our thoughts on the matter here.

But the newest EDF feels like a marked improvement from its most recent predecessors, Sandlot's Earth Defense Force 2017 and Vicious Cycle's Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. There were a wealth of options available in the limited single-player demo of EDF4 at Tokyo Game Show. Players could choose from the standard on-foot soldiers of the Earth Defense Force crew or the flying winged maidens outfitted with jetpacks. Battles against the...
