Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse review: lowest common denominator

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse takes its cue from a 2009 episode of the TV show called "Road to the Multiverse," in which Stewie, the series' diabolical toddler, and Brian, the Griffin family's talking dog, travel to parallel universes. Each multiverse contains an alternate version of reality. In one universe where Christianity never existed, the Dark Ages never happened — zing! The enemies may be idiotic, but at least you have a variety of tools to take them down Players switch between control of Stewie and Brian at will, running around colorful levels and shooting hordes of enemies. Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse DLC adds new challenge, costumes, characters for $5

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse received its first package of downloadable content today, Peter Griffin's Man Boob Mega Sweat Pack, which brings extra characters and costumes, along with a new scenario, into the third-person shooter. The bundle, which was released in Europe and the U.K. Dec. 20, includes four pieces of content. The Space Station Challenge pits Stewie and Chris against alien chickens and is playable solo or cooperatively. The Evil Pack provides players with the Evil Stewie costume and his machete for all game modes, as well as Evil Mayor West and his petrified cat for multiplayer and challenge modes. Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse dev: 'If it didn't feel like 'Family Guy,' we would hate it'

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse's developers at Heavy Iron Studios and Activision have gone to great lengths to make the upcoming game faithful to the long-running TV series, according to Andy Owen, lead producer on the title at Activision. "If it wasn't funny, or if Stewie shouted 'Blast!' and it was clear we'd just hired some actor to do a mediocre Stewie impression," said Owen on the PlayStation Blog, "fans would hate it. We would hate it." The game is based on "Road to the Multiverse," the eighth-season premiere episode in which bosom buddies Brian and Stewie Griffin visit various parallel universes.
