Blood Dragon's plot is intentionally dumb. I think. The condensed version of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon's — intentionally, I think — laughably convoluted plot goes something like this: In the "future" world of 2007, an extended Cold War has yielded full-on nuclear annihilation for most of the planet. Cyber commando Rex "Power" Colt has been sent to solve the mysteries of an island full of cyborgs, mutants and VHS tapes. Blood Dragon tries harder than just about any retro-flavored release I've ever played to fit in as much of its inspiration and, at times, points of ridicule as it can. It drips John Carpenter, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John McTiernan, cult action movies with audiences grown through mom and pop video stores, even the bizarre tough guy/tender emotions dichotomy that...

"I am working on a project," Evans tells me excitedly. His enthusiasm is palpable; the strain in his voice sounds like he's going to burst. "I am in the process of building my dream team." Evans, who dared to dream with last year's Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, a standalone downloadable title that re-skinned the original Far Cry 3 into a neon laser paradise of cyborgs and dragons, is in the process of moving his team into a new studio in Montreal, offices formerly occupied by THQ. There, Evans says he and his dream team are glad to have a "new consecrated space they can play with." "This is the dream project," Evans says. "It's the one all of us have always wanted to make and it seems like they're gonna let us do it." Evans says he's working with Ubisoft's Darren Bartley — whose D...

With DualShock 4 controllers now appearing on retail shelves, gamers are getting to grips with figuring out which PlayStation 3 games work with the new controller. A Reddit thread has been opened to handle the issue, offering an initial list of games. Users are being invited to add to the list. "I just got my DualShock 4 today, and have noticed some games work, and some don't," wrote thread organizer Lapwner. "So, let's try to create a list so people can see which games work and which games don't. Note that the motion sensing does not work, so even though some games work with the controller, if they are reliant on the motion sensing, then they probably aren't worth playing it with." The current list of compatible games includes: Working Call of Duty (MW2, MW3, Black Ops, Black Ops...

American composer and former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Cliff Martinez seems to have outed Far Cry 4, according to a recent interview with Lost in the Multiplex. In response to a question about what he is currently working on, Martinez replies that he is working on several projects, including the unannounced next title in the Far Cry series. "There's a secret mission that I'm not completely on yet, it looks like I'll also be doing a Soderbergh TV series called The Knick, and I'm working on a video game called Far Cry 4," he said. "So yeah, I'm popular all this week." In July, developer Ubisoft dropped several hints that a new Far Cry game was in the works. "We're totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]," senior vice president of marketing and sales Tony Key said at the time. "It's a...

Ubisoft reported €76 million (approximately $99.5 million) in sales for the first fiscal quarter ending June 30, which the company said is slightly higher than its initial targets and was bolstered by sales of its back catalog and digital games. Despite overshooting initial estimates of €70 million ($91.6 million), first-quarter sales were down 42.2 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year, which brought in €131 million ($171.5 million) and included the launch of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. The company also saw a 56 percent increase in back catalog game sales and attributed the increase to the "solid performance" of Assassin's Creed 3, Far Cry 3, Just Dance 4, Rocksmith and Rayman Origins. Ubisoft also reported "continued momentum" in the sales of...

A new patch available for retro-styled adventure Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon allows players to reset the game's garrison challenges for a second play-through, Ubisoft announced today. The patch introducing the outpost reset option to Far Cry 3 launched in February. Players who successfully overtook all outposts on the island had the option to reset them, rewinding them to before they were conquered and providing a second challenge. Players can now re-conquer the garrisons in Blood Dragon with a new option that resets them all to square one. The patch is available today for all versions of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon across PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a standalone downloadable title that takes the original game's perilous island and re-skins it as a...
