Fuse for Wii U not ruled out, says Insomniac CEO

Insomniac Games has not ruled out bringing its upcoming co-op shooter Fuse to Wii U, CEO Ted Price told Digitally Downloaded. This comes just days after Price's Reddit AMA in which he confirmed the developer is not currently making any titles for the Nintendo platform, while describing the Wii U as more of a current-gen platform. Price went into further detail as to why the developer didn't decide to bring Fuse to Wii U from the get-go, explaining: "We have to be selective because it's easy to start to stretch yourself too thin. So we're careful about where we go. One of the questions I got a lot of early on was 'why aren't you developing for the Wii U?' and the answer was simply bandwidth. We had to focus on delivering a great game on multiple platforms, but there's a point where we...

Ted Price on Insomniac Games' independence, experimentation and indie inspiration

Insomniac Games released Resistance: Fall of Man at the launch of the PlayStation 3 in November 2006. Six and a half years later, the independent studio is about to launch another new intellectual property, Fuse, which is set to be released May 28 on PS3 and another new console — at least, a console that's new to the company — Xbox 360. In the interim, much has changed within Insomniac and within the video game industry. At the dawn of the current console generation, the industry was mostly console-centric, and it didn't appear as if that was going to change. But the rise of new platforms and distribution methods, coupled with a longer-than-usual console cycle, has made the future uncertain. "It's hard for people in any industry to accept change, especially when you've been...

Fuse will not feature online pass or microtransactions

Insomniac Games' upcoming team-based shooter Fuse will not feature an online pass or microtransactions, the studio revealed in an FAQ offered on the game's website. This is uncommon in large-scale releases — recent titles such as Tomb Raider, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Dead Space 3 have all featured microtransactions. The developer urged players not to pirate the title or purchase it second-hand on this basis. Writing on the website, an Insomniac representative stated: "You should still buy it new to support us because there are no microtransactions to make up for it, though." According to the studio, a public demo for Fuse will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 close to the game's May 28 release date. In Fuse, players step into the role of one of four covert agents:...

Fuse infographs look at the fictional science behind Fuse experimentation

Two infographics on Insomniac's upcoming co-op shooter Fuse offer a lighthearted understanding of the contentious fuel source, Fuse, and playable character, Dalton Brooks. The first, titled "Fuse: Scientific Findings Based on Explosive Experimentation," illustrates Fuse "facts." These include favorite hallucinations caused by Fuse, money spent on the fuel source’s research compared to public school funding and how there has only been seven successful Fuse tests conducted out of 1,273. The second is a profile on Dalton Brooks an Overstrike 9 Agent. It highlights that his primary skills are brute force, reluctant leadership and durability. As well as pointing out that his Magsheild weapon has a lethal blast radius of 11.3 feet, it also details his relationship matrix with women. Fuse...

Fuse delayed to spring 2013

Fuse, Insomniac Games' four-player co-op shooter, has been pushed back to spring 2013, publisher Electronic Arts announced during an investor call this afternoon. "We've decided to move the launch of Fuse to Q1 of fiscal 2014," said Blake Jorgensen, EA's chief financial officer. The first quarter of the company's 2014 fiscal year runs from April 1 through June 30, 2013. According to chief operating officer Peter Moore, Insomniac is spending some more time on the game, and "the extra work [will deliver] a big payout for players." Fuse is in development on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. When Insomniac and EA unveiled Fuse last fall — the shooter had originally been known as OverStrike — the companies said the game would be released in March 2013. Warner Bros. Australia is submitting Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition for classification under R18+

Warner Bros. in Australia confirmed today that it will be submitting Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition to the Australian Classification Board for consideration under the recently-introduced R18+ rating for video games. The 2011 release of Mortal Kombat was barred from being sold in Australia after the game received a Refused Classification rating from the Board. At the time, Australia's classification system for video games only went up to MA15+, which meant any game that the Classification Board believed to be too mature for the MA15+ category would be Refused Classification and effectively banned from sale. Mortal Kombat's graphic violence and gore tipped it outside of MA15+ territory. Mortal Kombat's publisher released the following statement today: Warner Bros Entertainment...

Insomniac reveals Fuse's 'co-petitive' Echelon mode

Price explains that Echelon will have you teaming up with buddies to take down AI opponents, like in the campaign, but you'll also be competing with your friends for certain reward. Co-op plus competitive: co-petitive. Strange word choice aside, you might sooner recognize Echelon by another name: horde mode. This is a 12-round, wave-based trial, like those seen in many other shooters, but again Insomniac believes it can stand out. They're focusing on offense rather than the defense, and each round rotates between a number of randomized objectives. you might recognize Echelon by another name: horde mode Sometimes your objective will be as simple as killing all of the enemies or a specific enemy V.I.P. Other times you'll need to protect positions from enemy advancement or fight for...
