God of War trilogy developer Stig Asmussen departs Sony Santa Monica

God of War trilogy developer and God of War 3 game director Stig Asmussen has left Sony Computer Entertainment Santa Monica Studio, a representative from Sony Computer Entertainment America confirmed to Polygon following a report by IGN. "SCEA can confirm that Stig Asmussen is no longer with Santa Monica Studio," the statement reads. Asmussen joined the development studio behind the God of War franchise in 2003. His time at the company saw him work as an environment artist on the first God of War, as art director for God of War 2 and then as creative director for God of War 3. God of War 3 design director Todd Papy took over the role of game director for the next game in the franchise, God of War: Ascension, before leaving to later join Crytek. Sony did not comment if Asmussen ...

'God of War: Ascension’s' Elephantaur is a terrifying pachyderm portmanteau

God of War: Ascension, the upcoming PlayStation 3 prequel with a multiplayer twist, features a grotesque elephant/minotaur hybrid designed to be smart and deadly, according to a post on the official PlayStation blog. A concept artist named Izzy explains the genesis of the Elephantaur, which began with a scrapped design from God of War 3 and a run in with a precocious pachyderm. "I had a bad run in with an elephant in Thailand that thought it was really funny dunking me in the river Kwai again and again," he said. "The locals thought it was hilarious, too. But ever since... I've known them for what they really are: the giant grey bullies of the forest! So as an artist I drew from my suffering and humiliation to really make this guy an evil bastard. It fits our God of War universe...

'PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale' adds Cole McGrath from 'Infamous' and Jak & Daxter

The roster of Sony and SuperBot Entertainment's crossover fighting game PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale has grown. Today at Comic-Con, developers from SuperBot unveiled two new fighters: the duo Jak and Daxter and Cole McGrath from Infamous. Cole and Jak and Daxter join the cross-game, cross-publisher roster, which already includes Kratos from God of War, Nathan Drake fromUncharted, PaRappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, Fat Princess, Big Daddy from BioShock, Radec from Killzone 2, Heihachi from Tekken and PlayStation mascot Toro. One of Jak's super moves in Battle Royale sees him transform into Light Jak from Jak 3, spawning glowing wings and giving him the ability to throw fireballs. Cole's super move gives the Infamous star a third-person shooter view of...

God of War: Ascension has god-like multiplayer action, all-new tricks for Kratos

The developers of God of War: Ascension are teaching the old god a few new tricks - and not just by grafting on a multiplayer mode to the PlayStation 3 prequel. Changes are coming to the single-player side of Sony's bloody God of War series, changes that may not have been apparent during our first look at Ascension's campaign from earlier this week. Sony sped through the single-player portion of God of War: Ascension at its E3 2012 press conference. Later, at Sony's PlayStation booth, the company provided extra context, explaining what Kratos' new super powers were all about and the proper way to viciously execute an Elephantaur. The slice of God of War: Ascension seen at Sony's E3 press conference and at its booth hits at the game's halfway point, we're told. Kratos is heading to the...

God of War 4: Will there be news on April 19th?

A new PlayStation-created Facebook page certainly looks like it might be hinting at a God of War 4 unveiling next week. "Will vengeance bring redemption?" the official Facebook page asks, followed by the date April 19, 2012. The online titillation comes in the wake of months of rumors about a return to the God of War franchise, including at least one mention on a resume. It's also worth noting that many of the developers from God of War III seem to be back at the Sony Santa Monica studios and are all working on an unannounced project, according to resume site LinkedIn. While God of War 3 ended the trilogy, the post-credit scene did leave the door open for some sort of follow-up to the PlayStation 3 exclusive.
