God of War: Ascension's forthcoming 1.04 update will introduce Elite Levels, champion stats, optimize matchmaking and fix bugs related to audio and unlock requirements, according to the PlayStation Blog.
Designer Vincent Napoli from Sony Santa Monica wrote on the blog that the update will increase the allegiance level cap from 30 to 40. "With the addition of 10 levels for every God allegiance, we are introducing a new item, two new relics and an ultimate magic for every allegiance," he said. "For our Champions who have ascended to the highest levels, and for those on their way, now you have a new goal to reach."
The update will also make champion stats accessible from the main menu, fix the audio drop issues that many players were experiencing, and address the shard issues that...
As this God of War: Ascension trailer shows, joining the lord of the underworld isn't always a bad idea.
In Ascension's multiplayer mode, players may pledge their allegiance to one of the Olympian gods, and one's chosen patron deity influences the ability one has in combat. Players who join up with Hades, god of the netherworld, receive necromantic powers that allow them to turn invisible, curse foes and drain their health and life essence.
Polygon's own Arthur Gies praised God of War: Ascension praised the game's multiplayer modes in our official review, saying that it was "easily the best realization of a third-person action game translated to online multiplayer."
God of War: Ascension comes out today for PlayStation 3.
The God of War games are known for their outlandish, often grotesque monster designs — and the gruesome ways in which they meet their doom at Kratos' hands — and Sony has released a developer diary highlighting one of those beasts all throughout its life cycle.
In God of War: Ascension, Kratos will face off against the gargantuan Juggernaut, an elephant-man in the style of the classic Greek minotaur. This behind-the-scenes video takes us back to the beginnings of Ascension's development in 2010, where the developers sought a creature to replace the aforementioned minotaur in combat. It shows how the artists went through different character concepts like boar-men and rhino-men before settling on the so-called "Elephantaur."
Once the creature was designed, the video walks viewers...
A new trailer for the upcoming God of War: Ascension offers a look at how users can align with the god Poseidon and use him for support throughout.
Those who pledge to Poseidon will be able to make use of his strong defensive base and ability to absorb massive amounts of damage. Defensive tactics such as the use of ice will alternatively slow or freeze enemies in their tracks.
God of War: Ascension is scheduled to hit March 12 for PlayStation 3.
Sony has unveiled a trailer for Trial of the Gods, the fourth and final DLC mode for God of War: Ascension.
Trial of the Gods is a co-op time-attack mode in which legendary Greek heroes team up to defeat wave after wave of mythical monsters, all while the clock is running. If the players can triumph over all five rounds, they'll be rewarded with an "epic boss encounter" against a god himself.
God of War: Ascension comes out March 12th for PS3.
Pre-ordering either the standard or Collector's Edition of upcoming release God of War: Ascension will net buyers the Mythological Heroes downloadable content pack, which includes special weapons and armor for use in-game.
The trailer above details the contents of the bundle, the armor and weapons once belonging to four of Greek mythology's greatest warriors: Perseus, Orion, Achilles and Odysseus. Players can equip these items for use in Ascension's multiplayer mode, giving them the edge of an ancient hero in the arena. Watch the video for a better look at each armor set's style and power in battle.
God of War: Ascension will launch PlayStation 3 on March 12 in North America, March 13 in Europe, March 14 in Australia and March 15 in the U.K..
God of War: Ascension's evil succubus Empusa is the subject of a trailer released today showing how the character developed during the game's production.
Check out the video above to see Sony Santa Monica Studios' artists explain Empusa from her inception, through the concept art and finally how she'll appear and move in the game. Fair NSFW warning first, though: Empusa rarely wears a top. The video contains nudity.
God of War: Ascension is set for release March 12, 2013 on PlayStation 3.
While Sony has mostly been highlighting God of War: Ascension's multiplayer component, today the company released two videos highlighting the traditional story campaign.
The launch trailer (above) focuses on the story in this prequel to the God of War series, where Kratos is younger and is still a general in the Greek army, with a wife and daughter whom (spoiler alert!) he hasn't killed yet.
In "Single Player Ascends" (below), the next entry in developer Sony Santa Monica's behind-the-scenes "Unchained" series, the studio explains how it's trying to evolve the tenets of God of War while ensuring that everything makes sense from a chronological standpoint in the story of Kratos.
God of War: Ascension launches March 12, two weeks from today, exclusively on PlayStation 3. A...
A new God of War: Ascension video gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at "vo-mocap," Sony Santa Monica's motion capture procedure.
The video features actors Jennifer Hale (Lysandra), T.C Carson (Kratos) and Troy Baker (Orkos) suited up and on-set to act out scenes from the game. After their performance is through, the cinematic animators take the footage and recreate it within the game.
According to a post from producer Ariel Lawrence, vo-mocap is great because it allows voice actors to work together.
"Delivery, timing, and efforts all come more naturally because the actors are able to play off of each other," Lawrence wrote. "They see how far apart they are from each other physically. They can watch emotions play out on each other's faces and respond appropriately. They can...
