God of War: Ascension players will be able to augment their multiplayer characters' arsenal with new weapons and armor this week, publisher Sony Computer Entertainment announced today. The Armor of Typhon and the Mercenary Blade, known as the Primordial Weapons, will be available on PlayStation Network today when Sony updates the PlayStation Store with Ascension's second set of DLC. Last week, developer Sony Santa Monica released the Armors of Anarchy and Blades of Darkness alongside Chimeran Armor. Everything costs money except the Chimeran Armor; each weapon or armor set in the first DLC release sold for $2.99. Sony is now manufacturing the PlayStation 3 in Brazil, according to an announcement, as part of the company's "commitment to invest in the growth of the gaming industry" in the country. PS3s manufactured at Sony's Brazilian facility with a 250GB hard drive will retail for $1099 Reais (about $550 USD). "Sony Computer Entertainment continues to invest in the Brazil game market as part of our long-term commitment to the country and its gamers," said Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, at an event in Sao Paulo. "Locally manufacturing PlayStation 3 in Brazil will benefit gamers, retailers and developers. Sony Santa Monica is currently running a double XP weekend for all God of War: Ascension multiplayer modes, the company announced via press release. Players can take advantage of double XP until Monday at 7 a.m. ET. The double XP weekend comes alongside the 1.04 Elite Update, which was announced earlier this month. The update increases the game's level cap from 30 to 40, optimizes matchmaking and fixes several bugs. Sony Santa Monica also announced that the Gnomon Gallery in Los Angeles will hold a special God of War: Ascension Q&A panel, which will be livestreamed through Twitch.TV. The stream begins at 4 p.m. ET.

The God of War Legacy bundle, which includes a garnet red 500 GB PlayStation 3, God of War: Ascension and the five previous titles in the God of War franchise, is on sale for $299.96 on Amazon. The sale price marks $50 dollars off the original amount of $349. Sony launched the bundle on March 12 in North America, to coincide with Ascension's release. The five games are bundled as the God of War Saga Collection, which includes HD remakes of PlayStation 2 games God of War and God of War 2; God of War 3 for PlayStation 3; and HD remakes of PlayStation Potable games God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta.

Retailer GameStop is offering free copies of the God of War Saga to customers who purchase God of War: Ascension, according to the retailer's online store. For the $59.99 price tag of Ascension, players will get the recently-released prequel to Kratos' story as well as Saga, which normally retails for $39.99. A particular section of God of War: Ascension — the Trial of Archimedes — will be patched to bring down the difficulty level, according to a tweet from game director Todd Papy. The level in question appears near the end of the game and requires players to fight three waves of enemies with no checkpoints and few health drops. Some players reported spending more than three hours trying to beat that one particular section due to its difficulty. Papy posted on Twitter today that the section "will be patched very soon" to the reduce the difficulty. In another tweet he wrote that he personally tuned that level and "didn't mean for it to be so hard. We are looking into patching it." Papy said on Twitter that he does not know when the patch will release.

God of War: Ascension developer Sony Santa Monica will alter the Trophy "Bros Before Hos" to "Bros Before Foes" in an upcoming game patch, the studio told Joystiq. "We have created and will soon push out a patch for God of War: Ascension that alters the title of one of the game Trophies," read Sony Santa Monica's statement to Joystiq. "The text was offensive to some members of our community and impacted their enjoyment of the game. We are endlessly committed to ensuring that our community can fully enjoy the experiences the team has created. As such, we've addressed the feedback and amended the Trophy in question." GameStop pre-orders for God of War: Ascension include a voucher for DLC containing two characters from PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, according to the product's listing on GameStop's website. The PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale DLC includes Zeus from the God of War series and Isaac Clarke, the engineer protagonist from Visceral Games' Dead Space series. The DLC will be available March 19. The GameStop pre-order also includes the Champions Pack, which contains Spartan warrior King Leonidas' multiplayer armor and weapon, as well as a 48 hour boost for XP in multiplayer. God of War's visceral kills are important for the series' action to "feel impactful" and not just like a video game, lead game designer Mark Simon said during a recent interview. Speaking with the PlayStation Blog, Simon said that the designers want to avoid creating too much of "gamey" feel. "If you swing a club and hit someone it's got to feel like you've just hit them with a club," Simon said. "If it doesn't, it feels gamey. We don't want that gamey feeling — we want it to feel like you're actually impacting someone's head. It makes that sound, it feels like that — you kind of cringe thinking about it, but that's what melee combat should feel like." A demo for The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic action adventure game, will be available May 31 for those who pre-ordered God of War: Ascension, according to a tweet today on Naughty Dog's official Twitter account. Plans for the demo, which includes a level from the game, were announced in January. God of War: Ascension owners will be able to access the free demo through the game's main menu. Ascension will be released next Tuesday, March 12, so there's still time to pre-order the game and secure access to the demo.
