ArenaNet has released a video discussing the creation of its ambitious Guild Wars 2 April Fools' prank, which added an entire area inspired by classic 8-bit titles to the online game's world.
The idea for "Super Adventure Box" came from Guild Wars 2's Halloween 2012 event, says environment artist Josh Foreman. The Mad King's Clock Tower was a massive jumping puzzle entirely contained in its own map, and "this really got the wheels turning," he says. "I was thinking of all the other cool things we could do with that."

Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet's fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game, will introduce five new guild mission types this month to support player versus enemy group-based combat, according to a post by content designer Leah Rivera on the game's official website.
"Our team's primary goal was to create a solid foundation to support PvE guild play," Rivera writes. "We wanted to create a feature that provided guild members with fun things to do together now, and could be expanded to support new styles of content in the future. To do that, we've created a system with three key features: guild missions, guild merits and an expanded unlock system."

The latest Guild Wars 2 gameplay video details the new PvP map included in the upcoming content update Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm.
The PvP map called "Spirit Watch" features a capture-the-flag mode. Two teams must capture the Orb of Ascension located in the center of the map and run it to one of three capture shrines: Wolf, Raven and Bear.
Teams are allocated capture shrines at the start of the match. Running the Orb to a friendly shrine awards 30 points and running the orb to enemy shrine rewards 15 points; however, the shrine is neutralized by doing so.
Players with Orb possession are reduced to 60 percent speed, yet have access to all of their powers, except stealth and swiftness.

Later this week, starting Dec. 14, The Wondrous Workshop of Toymaker Tixx — a floating airship instance — will make stops throughout the world of Guild Wars 2, bringing activities, events, and festive surprises to players across Tyria. Then, on Dec. 20, Tixx will touch down at Lion's Arch for a fortnight, ushering in the new Toypocalypse event.

Guild Wars 2's Halloween-themed Shadow of the Mad King update begins rolling out today, and a new rhyming trailer shows off the spooky content and its background in the game's lore.
Shadow of the Mad King concerns a tyrannical Krytan king who was assassinated 500 years ago by the people he oppressed. Legend has it that his spirit was banished to the Underworld, but it can return to the land of the living on Halloween. Even so, the king's spirit hasn't been seen for 250 years.
Developer ArenaNet will add the content to Guild Wars 2 in four acts scheduled for Oct. 22, Oct. 26, Oct. 28 and Oct. 31, respectively.
