"The Mobula puts the most possible firepower in one direction, with 5 front facing guns and nothing anywhere else," the announcement states. "Due to the layout of the ship repairs will be difficult while in mid-combat, making the Mobula one of the highest risk and reward ship to fly. Meanwhile, the Phobos Mine Launcher will add a new level of depth to play. "Up to 5 mines can be shot into the sky, deploying after 3 seconds with a balloon. Guns of Icarus Online Adventure Mode makes funding goal with a month to spare

The Kickstarter campaign for airship combat title Guns of Icarus Online's Adventure Mode, which launched last month, has surpassed its funding goal of $100,000 with a month to spare. Successful funding means developer Muse Games can bring an AI Director onto the team to "tune" new additions to the game. New PvE missions featuring enemy biplanes and boss battles with tougher ships will be added to both single-player and multiplayer. Check out the video posted above to see the biplane AI in its current form. Adding Adventure Mode into Guns of Icarus will also bring with it a "persistent online post-apocalyptic steam and dieselpunk world," according to the Kickstarter page," as well as the ability for players to captain their own ship and build their own crew. The game will also add...

The soaring successes, surprise endings and abject failures of crowd-funded video games

Unfortunately, Kickstarter doesn't track the successes of funded games once a project's deadline hits. Instead it is up to project creator to decide what they want to share, where they want to share it and with whom they want to share updates. Polygon tracked down five game designers to talk about their soaring successes, surprise endings and abject failures through Kickstarter funding and beyond. We found the biggest challenge developers face comes not from seeking money, but from how they spend it. The poster boy for Kickstarter cautionary tales According to Rick Dakan — head of California-based Mob Rule Games, a studio that successfully funded a stylistic gothic title by the name of Haunts: The Manse Macabre — he is "the Internet's poster boy for Kickstarter cautionary...

'Guns of Icarus Online' launches October 29th

Guns of Icarus Online, the steampunk airship dogfighting game from developer Muse Games, launches October 29th, and is currently available to pre-order from Steam. The title allows players to pilot their own armed-to-the-teeth dirigibles, then invite up to three co-pilots to help manage the different systems on a single ship — weapons, repairs, and so on — as they fend off waves of attackers. The original Guns of Icarus launched in 2010 to tepid critical reception, but Online (which was primarily funded through Kickstarter earlier this year) promises to expand and improve the franchise. The standard edition of the game can be pre-ordered from Steam for $14.99, a 25 percent discount off the launch price of the title. A collector's edition, which includes the game's soundtrack and an...
