Crytek offers $500K for Homefront franchise at THQ bankruptcy auction

Crytek, the developer best known for its Crysis series of first-person shooters, offered a bid of $544,218 for the Homefront franchise in an auction today that sold recently dissolved publisher THQ's studios and properties. The offers put forth by Crytek and other companies are not final and await approval from a judge. According to the Notice of Auction Results, Crytek was the winning bidder in an auction that did not have a backup bidder. Crytek's acquisition of the Homefront franchise would make sense, as the developer has been working on Homefront 2 for several years for a targeted 2014 release. Crytek acquired the development role from Homefront developer Kaos Studios, which was shuttered in June 2011, just months after the game's release. Polygon is in the courtroom for the...

New games are in development at each of THQ's four internal studios, president Jason Rubin announced today. THQ currently owns Relic Entertainment in Vancouver; Vigil Games in Austin; Volition, Inc. in Champaign, Illinois; and THQ Studio Montreal. The company closed its San Diego studio in June after selling its license for UFC games to Electronic Arts. THQ will not have a booth at this year's E3; instead, it will be supporting its portfolio of games in a much more limited capacity. "When we needed to make the decision on the booth (many...
