This year's winners of the new Game Developers Conference award program "Best in Play" were announced following the three-day GDC Play 2013 event that allows new developers to showcase their titles. The eight winners, decided upon by the organisers of the 2013 Game Developers Conference and Gamasutra editors, were chosen from over 70 exhibitors. They include mech-centric shooter Hawken by Meteor Entertainment, Spin the Bottle by KnapNok for Wii U, Impire by Cyanide Studio, Grooh by digiDingo ag, Monsters Invade: Oz by Little Box Apps, Krautscape by Team Krautscape, Mini Moto Racing EVO from The Binary Mill and Space Qube by Qubit Games. Paradox Interactive announced Impire, a dungeon-building strategy game from Cyanide, at its On Tour press event yesterday. Impire sees players take the role of the demon lord Báal-Abaddon, whom the sorcerer Oscar van Fairweather has trapped inside the body of a poor little imp. The game will task players with breaking free of the imp body, regaining the demon's full form, and building up a dungeon to serve as his new kingdom. Báal-Abaddon's dungeon will have to be defended from attack, and tools for warding off invaders include minions, death traps, and magical spells. Minions can be leveled up and outfitted with loot, and the campaign supports solo and co-op play. A separate multiplayer setup gives players the opportunity to "confront and crush" other users.
