The technology behind the PlayStation 4 has allowed Guerilla Games to vastly reduce load times in Killzone: Shadow Fall, according to managing director Hermen Hulst. Demoing the game on PS4 to Polygon today, Hulst said the studio timed how long it takes for the game to start up from when the player inserts a physical disc into their PS4 to when they begin playing the single-player campaign. According to Hulst, from disc insertion to the 1.5 minute introductory movie to profile creation to getting into the game takes 2 minutes 44 seconds. With DualShock 4 controllers now appearing on retail shelves, gamers are getting to grips with figuring out which PlayStation 3 games work with the new controller. A Reddit thread has been opened to handle the issue, offering an initial list of games. Users are being invited to add to the list. "I just got my DualShock 4 today, and have noticed some games work, and some don't," wrote thread organizer Lapwner. "So, let's try to create a list so people can see which games work and which games don't. Note that the motion sensing does not work, so even though some games work with the controller, if they are reliant on the motion sensing, then they probably aren't worth playing it with." Gaikai is teasing a number of games over at its website, with images from Mass Effect, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and Uncharted 3 appearing in a reel that suggests that the games might be coming to the online streaming service soon. While details are currently scarce, the images on the website suggest that many of Sony's first-party PlayStation games will be coming to the service now that it has been acquired by Sony. Among the games teased include God of War, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3. It is not yet known when these games might be available on Gaikai and in what form they will take.

The Killzone Trilogy will bundle together the Killzone franchise's three console games on October 23rd for $39.99, Sony announced today. The original Killzone, which launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2004, has been given a 720p high-definition makeover for the trilogy, and it now has Trophies, too. Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 round out the package. Killzone: Mercenary, the first PS Vita iteration of Guerrilla Games' franchise, debuted with a live-action trailer at Sony's Gamescom 2012 press conference today. Guerrilla is developing Mercenary. The trailer did include some gameplay footage of typical first-person Killzone action, augmented by touchscreen swipe controls for melee combat. Jim Ryan, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, called it "a first-person shooter that would simply not be possible on any other platform." Update: The trailer is available to watch in its entirety below. According to Guerrilla Games, Killzone: Mercenary runs on the same engine that powered Killzone 3. It is currently set for release in 2013.

Sony is prepping for a PlayStation Network summer sale which features 50 percent off discounts for PlayStation Plus members, the platform holder announced through its PlayStation Blogcast. Starting July 3rd, games included in the sale will be available for 30 percent off their typical price tag for non-members. Games featured include Closure, Crysis, Infamous: Festival of Blood, Jurassic Park: The Game, Killzone 3 multiplayer, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, Real Steel, Renegade Ops, Shadow of the Colossus HD, The House of the Dead III, Worms: Ultimate Mayhem. It is unknown how long the sale will last; however, Sony promises to have more details soon.
