An upcoming LittleBigPlanet 3 private beta is scheduled to begin this August, but Sony warns that access to it will be tough. The company has already selected a number of community creators from fansite LBPCentral to participate in the limited test, promising that those chosen will receive invites in the coming weeks. "Please be aware that space for this private beta is incredibly limited and only a small number of you will actually receive an invitation, however we thought it would be better than you hear about this private beta directly from us than just through the grapevine," wrote LittleBigPlanet community manager Steven Isbell. "So please don't be discouraged if you didn't get chosen this time around... We still have plenty of news to share with everyone between now and...

The latest character to be turned into a costume for the LittleBigPlanet games is Abe, star of the Oddworld series of platformers, Sony announced today. A Sackboy/Sackgirl costume for Abe, who appeared in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, will be available to purchase April 30 for $1.99. Costumes are compatible with Sony's cross-buy program for downloadable content — the same one will work across LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet Karting, and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. Oddworld developer Oddworld Inhabitants is currently working with Just Add Water on the next Oddworld title, a remake of Abe's Oddysee called Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New 'n Tasty; it is set for release later this year. In addition, Sony is marking the Cinco de Mayo holiday...

With DualShock 4 controllers now appearing on retail shelves, gamers are getting to grips with figuring out which PlayStation 3 games work with the new controller. A Reddit thread has been opened to handle the issue, offering an initial list of games. Users are being invited to add to the list. "I just got my DualShock 4 today, and have noticed some games work, and some don't," wrote thread organizer Lapwner. "So, let's try to create a list so people can see which games work and which games don't. Note that the motion sensing does not work, so even though some games work with the controller, if they are reliant on the motion sensing, then they probably aren't worth playing it with." The current list of compatible games includes: Working Call of Duty (MW2, MW3, Black Ops, Black Ops...

The Nightmare Before Christmas Level Kit and Costume Pack are headed to LittleBigPlanet 2 and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita next week, LittleBigPlanet community coordinator Steven Isbell revealed today on the PlayStation Blog. Just in time for Halloween, players will be able to hang out in a Halloween Town-inspired level and dress up their Sackboys as characters like Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. According to Isbell's response to a question in the blog post's comments, both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions will contain "the same creation goodies, but each level is its own unique trip to Halloween Town with the PS Vita version including some unique touch-based gameplay just for the PS Vita." The LittleBigPlanet appearance is the second for The...

Best Buy is holding a PlayStation sale this week, with deals on the PlayStation Vita as well as the Greatest Hits versions of a variety of PlayStation 3 games. The PS Vita is available for $199.99. That applies to the standard Wi-Fi model, which regularly costs $249, but there's an even better deal: The launch bundle with the 3G model, which usually costs $299, is also on sale for $199.99. That bundle comes with a 3G-enabled PS Vita, an 8 GB memory card and a promo code good for 250 MB of data on the 3G network that AT&T provides for the handheld. (It also includes a code for a free PlayStation Network game, but the voucher appears to have expired in May 2012.) Best Buy is also offering a bunch of PS3 Greatest Hits titles for $14.99 each. The discounted games include Gran Turismo 5:...

The LittleBigPlanet community has now created more than 8 million levels across all the games in the series, said franchise creator developer Media Molecule yesterday. The milestone comes less than one year after the total number of levels reached 7 million, which happened last August, although the pace of growth has slowed — the community went from 6 million to 7 million levels between January and August 2012, a span of less than eight months. According to Steven Isbell, community coordinator for LittleBigPlanet, the series' next major landmark is its five-year anniversary this October. The release of the original LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation 3 in October 2008 kicked off the franchise, which continued with LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation Portable in November 2009, LittleBigPlanet 2...
