LittleBigPlanet Vita confounds your creativity before indulging it. The tools have grown to such a state of excess that figuring out what you want to build - rather than what you can build - stymies decision making. "The only limit is your imagination," the game's marketing materials brag. It's true, which is a tough pill to swallow when you're suffering from game-designer's-block. That freedom is only paralytic for so long, though. Once you clear the hurdle of conceptualization, LittleBigPlanet Vita's Create mode is absorbing. Learning to execute your ideas while inventing new applications for old options is rewarding beyond compare - even if this isn't your first go-round with LittleBigPlanet's cushioned constructors. The latest character to be turned into a costume for the LittleBigPlanet games is Abe, star of the Oddworld series of platformers, Sony announced today. A Sackboy/Sackgirl costume for Abe, who appeared in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus and Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, will be available to purchase April 30 for $1.99. Costumes are compatible with Sony's cross-buy program for downloadable content — the same one will work across LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet Karting, and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. Oddworld developer Oddworld Inhabitants is currently working with Just Add Water on the next Oddworld title, a remake of Abe's Oddysee called Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee New 'n Tasty; it is set for release later this year. In addition, Sony is marking the Cinco de Mayo holiday...

The LittleBigPlanet community has now created more than 8 million levels across all the games in the series, said franchise creator developer Media Molecule yesterday. The milestone comes less than one year after the total number of levels reached 7 million, which happened last August, although the pace of growth has slowed — the community went from 6 million to 7 million levels between January and August 2012, a span of less than eight months. According to Steven Isbell, community coordinator for LittleBigPlanet, the series' next major landmark is its five-year anniversary this October. The release of the original LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation 3 in October 2008 kicked off the franchise, which continued with LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation Portable in November 2009, LittleBigPlanet 2...

LittleBigPlanet Karting's Cross-Compatibility Pack DLC is available today for free and allows players to use DLC costumes from LittleBigPlanet 2 and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita in the kart racer, according to a post on the official PlayStation Blog. All costumes purchased the future will also be available across the range of LittleBigPlanet titles. Only a few costumes — notably those from Assassin's Creed — are incompatible with the update, according to an FAQ on the LittleBigPlanet website. Other costumes may take a while to incorporate, as the developers "literally had to rebuild all of these costumes from scratch again for each game." You can find installation instructions for syncing up the updates and systems on the FAQ. A DLC pack called Emergency Services for LittleBigPlanet 2, L...
