Ubisoft injects 100 jobs into Quebec through $25M investment

Ubisoft plans to create 100 new jobs at its Quebec City studio with an investment of $25 million spread over three years, the company announced today, with the Quebec government contributing an additional $450,000 towards the expansion. According to the announcement, the investment will see the company strengthen its infrastructure, recruit talent and "take the lead on the development of AAA next-gen games." Currently employing 320 people, the studio has contributed to the development of the Assassin's Creed franchise, Raving Rabbids Invasion and Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth. The branch's development focus has been on Wii U and Xbox 360 platforms in recent years. "Our Quebec City studio has demonstrated its ability to manage large-scale projects and it is a natural progression to...

Wii U hackers claim Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth as the console's first ripped disc

Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth may be the first Wii U disc to be ripped and distributed online, according to a group called Venom. The group claims to have cracked the Wii U's encryption, ripped the disc and posted it online. According to the NFO file that accompanies the 23 GB ISO image for the European version of Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth, it represents the "first full WiiU [sic] disc image." CVG recently reported that an unidentified group claimed to have "completely reversed the Wii U drive authentication, disk encryption, file system, and everything else needed for this next generation key." In response, a representative from Nintendo told CVG that the company "continuously monitors all threats to its products' security and will use technology and will take the...

Watch Stan Lee perform super punches in Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth

During an interview about Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth, legendary comic creator Stan Lee showed that he can still throw a punch or two. Using motion-based gameplay, Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth allows players to unleash super attacks. Gamers can play as many different characters, including Captain America, Iron Man, Phoenix and Thor. "You really get a chance not only to play the character, but in a sense to be the character," said Lee. Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth released on Oct. 30 for Xbox 360. A Wii U release is expected on Dec. 4.

These are the games hitting the day the Wii U arrives

Note: This list is a work in progress. We will be updating it as we receive more information. At least 17 games will launch alongside the Wii U on November 18th, according to publishers and developers Polygon has spoken with. Earlier this week, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said that 50 titles will be released during the console's launch window, which Nintendo defined as running from the November 18th launch date through March 31st, 2013. After speaking with developers and publishers, we were able to confirm that 17 games are planned for a November 18th release, with another nine expected to arrive in time for the holidays and six more coming "before the end of the year." Polygon reached out to all of the companies behind the Wii U's first fifty for confirmation on...

'Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth' sees you fight the Skrull invasion

During a demo of Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth at a Ubisoft press event last week — somewhere between raising my fist in the air and bringing it down with the fury of Mjolnir, and clapping my arms together for Hulk's thunderclap — I began to feel silly. Then I realized two things: (1) It is impossible not to look ridiculous while playing a Kinect game, and (2) if I were 15 years younger, I probably would have felt pretty bad-ass instead of, or at least in addition to, silly.

Ubisoft says Wii U development cost 'not a huge investment,' plans more free-to-play games

Ubisoft is embracing the Wii U in a way unlike any other third-party developer, with plans to Assassin's Creed 3, Rayman Legends, Just Dance 4 and more. However, Ubisoft execs say, the large number of ports of existing games means the French publisher is not making a huge R&D investment in Nintendo's new console. "Out of the seven games we are planning to launch, five games are ports, so those are games for which there is a quite small re-investment to do," said a Ubisoft executive during an investor call. "The two games that are original are ZombiU and Rayman, so those ones, of course, are more expensive." At E3, Ubisoft announced plans to bring Assassin's Creed 3, Rayman Legends, ZombiU, Just Dance 4, Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth, Rabbids Land, Sports Connection and Your Shape:...
