Inafune: Gunvolt hits eShop Aug. 29 for $15

Azure Striker Gunvolt, a 2D action platformer for the 2DS and 3DS executive produced by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, hits Nintendo's eShop on Aug. 29 for $14.99, Inafune announced today. The game was developed by Inti Creates, a Tokyo-based indie developer best known for their work on Mega Man 9 and 10 and the Mega Man Zero series. The studio, which specializes in 2D handheld titles, is also working on Inafune's Mighty No. 9. You can check out a video of the game right here.

Mighty No. 9 begins new fundraising campaign, teases animated TV series

Mighty No. 9, the sidescrolling platformer from Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, has opened a second funding campaign with the purpose of delivering English voice acting to the project, due to release in 2015. Mighty No. 9 already has raked in $4 million from last year's Kickstarter, exhausting all stretch goals in the process. Inafune says that anything collected in the new funding round will be put toward new features, and that the second round is meant to give those who missed the original Kickstarter a chance to contribute to the project still. This round of funding is being conducted through PayPal. Additional stretch goals are anticipated but not yet named. Also, as promised, Mighty No. 9 will deliver an animated TV series. It is being produced by Tokyo-based Digital Frontier,...

Mighty No. 9 offers more gameplay video and a peek at a new playable character

Mighty No. 9, the crowdfunded platformer helmed by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, delivered another update to backers over the weekend, including another 90 seconds of gameplay and a look at a character who was made playable when the campaign hit a stretch goal. The character's name is Call, and some work-in-progress animations show her crawling, a maneuver that should be useful for getting her into or out of tight spaces. She also appears to have some sort of pink jetpack, though it is not shown in action. The video above showcases more from the Mighty No. 2 and No. 5 stages, including a boss battle. Additionally, Inafune will be hosting a panel at this weekend's Anime Expo 2014 in Los Angeles. It sounds as though he will reveal more about the game at the panel. Mighty No. 9 is...

We mapped our past: Our readers share their favorite hand-drawn video game maps

We asked for your maps, and you sent them in. Sometimes with a story. Here are a few example. "Saw your article about hand drawn game maps. I still have a duotang of Final Fantasy 1 maps I drew as I played the games back in the 90s," one reader said. "I mapped most of the major dungeons/shrines." My favorite part of this map is that I had to look up the word "duotang." The next e-mail was long, but it's a story worth telling. "My sister and I didn't always play well together, we had very different personalities and it didn't always mix well while playing pretend. But we did play the heck out of the Quest for Glory series, and were somehow able to do it together, as a team. That series, and Commander Keen, was our first exposure to video games as a whole, so we had no idea the...

Mighty No. 9 gameplay teases Mighty No. 2 and Mighty No. 5's stages, hits Spring 2015

Mighty No. 9 work-in progress gameplay footage offers a first look at the Mighty No. 2 and Mighty No. 5's stages, as well as glimpses at the boss battles. Backers are also invited to take part in a two-for-one survey special for the next step in the Support Character Naming and Coloring campaign, allowing participants to vote on user submitted designs. More details are located on the game's official forums. Developer Comcept USA funded the Mega Man spiritual successor on Kickstarter last year. The campaign raised more than $3.8 million, surpassing its $900,000 goal, and earned more than $4 million combined with its PayPal contributions. Mighty No. 9 is slated for a Spring 2015 release, according to the video, on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Linux, Mac, Windows...

Last week, it r...

Mighty No. 9 live-action adaptation in the works

Contradiction Films writer and producer Tim Carter today revealed on EP Live that his production company is currently working on a live-action adaptation of Mighty No. 9. Carter, who has served as a writer on Sleeping Dogs and producer for the first season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy told EP Live that the production team is in the early stages of creating a digital series to the spiritual successor of Mega Man. "We are building the story right now," he said "Inafune-san created [Mega Man], and he has now created Mighty No. 9. We don't have the rights to Mega Man, obviously, but we are working with him on a live-action adaptation of it." Carter added that he initially had concerns about how the game might translate culturally in a live-action production for a North American audience, but...

Mega Man: The Board Game Kickstarter concludes successfully with $415K (update)

The Kickstarter campaign to fund Mega Man: The Board Game, Jasco Games' officially licensed Mega Man board game, successfully ended today with more than $415K in pledges. Easily hitting its initial target of $70,000, the campaign achieved numerous stretch goals, which will see the addition of Gold Guts Man, Gold Cut Man, Yellow Devil, protagonist robot master cards, seven Mega Man alternate poses and more. "We are absolutely thrilled and amazed at how well the Kickstarter turned out, and we’re so excited that thousands of fans are interested in the board game," a Jasco Games spokesperson told Polygon.  "It was a great learning experience and we got some excellent feedback, some of which we’ll be incorporating in the final design. We really wanted to do something special for Mega Man...

Dead Rising 3 and the return of Mega Man X

Publisher Capcom has always seeded its Dead Rising games with self-referential celebrations of its own heritage. The original game, back in 2006, offered a Mega Man outfit and gun for special zombie-slaying achievers. Dead Rising 3, which launches on Xbox One on Nov. 22, is no exception. As well as the Mega Man X tribute there are also several celebrations of all things Street Fighter, including a 'Shoryuken' Dragon Punch attack using a boxing glove attached to a motorcycle engine. Of course, Dead Rising 3 is big on strange combinations, throwing bizarrely jimmied weapons and cultural references together with almost alarming abandon. But here, in the tongue-in-cheek world of walking dead goofiness, just about anything is permissible. "Dead Rising is one of those games where...
