Metro series coming to next-gen consoles, Deep Silver confirms

Metro developer 4A Games is bringing the franchise to new consoles as Metro Redux, publisher Deep Silver announced today. The Italian site Everyeye posted images over the weekend of a purported PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game called Metro Redux. According to Everyeye — which has since taken the images down — the title would reportedly consist of remastered versions of 2010's Metro 2033 (screenshot above) and 2013's Metro: Last Light, as well as their downloadable add-ons. Both games are set in the post-apocalyptic universe created by the Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, who started it all in 2005 with the novel Metro 2033. Instead of declining comment, Deep Silver confirmed a project called Metro Redux. "Is Metro Redux real? Yes. We never made any secret of 4A's desire to...

Why game developers are joining mass demonstrations in Ukraine

For the last few days, Prokhorov (pictured with 4A colleagues earlier today, he is second from left) has been among the hundreds of thousands of protesters in Kiev's Independence Square, seeking to defy their government's rejection of a closer integration with the European Union. He has been joined by many of Ukraine's game developers. Prokhorov has been attending the protests along with workmates from 4A Games and other games companies in Kiev. He has been using social media and texts to mobilize his network of contacts, many of whom are already committed to making their views heard. "I just posted information on my Facebook page, that I am going to the city center and anyone is welcome to join," he told Polygon. "Also I called my friends and acquaintances. Many of them have already...

This is what Valve's Steam Machine prototype looks like

Valve's Steam Machine prototype is designed to fit right into a living room, both from a size and design perspective, so it's not surprising that it looks like a video game console, as seen in a hands-on report from The Verge. According to Valve, the company produced its prototype in order to give prospective third-party hardware manufacturers a model for their own Steam Machines. The SteamOS-based computer is designed to fit standard computer hardware of varying specifications — for the 300 prototypes Valve's shipping to Steam users later this year, the graphics cards run the gamut from an Nvidia GTX660 to a Titan — into a console-size box that won't look out of place in a typical living room entertainment center. Valve built its Steam Machines to prioritize cooling, with...

Metro: Last Light's Developer Pack DLC hits Sept. 17

Metro: Last Light's third pack of downloadable content, the Developer Pack, will be released Sept. 17 in North America on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and Steam, publisher Deep Silver announced today. The Developer Pack will launch Sept. 18 on PSN in Europe and the rest of the world. According to a blog post on the game's official website, the $3.99 DLC will include a survival horror-inspired solo mission called "Spider's Lair." "The 'Spider's Lair' is pure survival horror, Metro style — it combines all of our limited resource mechanics to pile pressure on the player," the post reads. Metro: Last Light gets virtual reality challenges with the Tower Pack

Metro: Last Light, 4A Games' post-apocalyptic shooter, will be expanded next week with its second piece of downloadable content: a challenge-based "combat simulator" titled the Tower Pack. As the title suggests, the DLC adds a virtually simulated, enemy-filled tower to the game, which players must shoot their way through floor-by-floor. All of the game's hand-crafted weaponry will be available to the player in this pursuit; if used wisely, they can reach the highest levels of the tower and, as a result, the highest level of the DLC's online leaderboards. The Tower Pack launches Sept. 3 on Xbox Live Marketplace, Steam and PlayStation Network, and one day later on the latter platform for European players. It will cost $4.99 (£3.99/€4.99), and comes free with the Metro: Last Light S...
