most of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's fights are the equivalent of boss battles It's all pretty basic fantasy game setup, but Monster Hunter sets itself apart in the process of taking down these beasts. While some smaller enemies exist, most of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate's fights are the equivalent of boss battles. These boss encounters aren't short fights in a closed-off arena. I battled a giant raptor for 20 minutes as it fled across whole zones. It called in friends for backup and attempted to rest to restore its vitality. There was no health bar floating above the creature's head, so I had to judge my progress on observations. As the raptor drooled and limped away, I knew I was close to winning, and the length of the struggle made the conquest all the sweeter. E...

Capcom U.K.'s community contest for Christmas cards resulted in some great Capcom-themed gems, and the company published the top five submissions on Capcom-Unity today. The winning design combines a typical Christmas scene with characters and creatures from the Monster Hunter series. Capcom released Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS earlier this year in North America. The Christmas card was contributed by David Hankin, a U.K.-based artist and game designer who has worked on Curve Studios' Stealth Bastard Deluxe and the game's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita port, Stealth Inc. - A Clone in the Dark. As the winner of the contest, Hankin will receive a PlayStation 4. You can see his full artwork below.

A new video from Capcom discusses the battle against the Jhen Mohran, a beast in Monster Hunter Tri and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. The Jhen Mohran is fought from the deck of a sand ship sailing a desert; it was designed to evoke whale hunts in the age of sail. Players must time attacks carefully to impale it upon a giant spear when it rushes the ship from the side, and run up on its back to attack its weak points before driving it into a final confrontation. The variant on the monster, the Hallowed Jhen Mohran gains a powerful sand-breath attack in this showdown, though the players in the video killed it before it could demonstrate that particular move. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate hit Wii U this past March. In our review, we found it an imaginative title that was rewarding if one fought...

In the video host Dubindoh and Capcom Unity member RedStache chat about the Lagiacrus: its powers, its weaknesses and how to get special loot from it. The Lagiacrus can usually be found underwater, and will generate energy from the spines on its back and charge the player, sometimes leaving behind a powerful whirlpool. The duo also discusses Lagiacrus' relatives, the land-dwelling Ivory Lagiacrus and the much more powerful Abyssal Lagiacrus. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate hit Wii U in March of this year. In the Polygon review, we found it "intense and rewarding" though flawed in several major areas. Monster Hunter 4 launched in Japan for Nintendo 3DS earlier this month. No...
