1 CommentTake-Two reports 76 percent jump in Q3 revenue led by NBA 2K13 sales
By Samit Sarkar on Feb 05, 2013 02.05.13
Take-Two announced strong results today for the third quarter of its 2013 fiscal year, reporting a 76 percent year-over-year increase in net revenue led primarily by 4.5 million units shipped of NBA 2K13. For the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2012, Take-Two tallied net revenue of $415.8 million, a 76 percent jump over the $236.3 million of revenue for the same period in 2011. Net income for the quarter increased by 399 percent to $70.9 million from $14.2 million. According to Take-Two, the three "strongest contributors" to revenue in the quarter were NBA 2K13, Borderlands 2 and catalog sales of games including Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption. Borderlands 2 was released in September, at the tail end of Take-Two's previous fiscal quarter; Take-Two has now shipped nearly 6 million...

6 CommentsNBA 2K13 Wii U producer wishes fewer developers would build their games around a console's feature set
By Tracey Lien on Nov 30, 2012 11.30.12
A producer on NBA 2K13 for Wii U, Rob Jones, says it's important for developers to analyze their games to see how they can be enhanced by new hardware, rather than building their games around the hardware's feature set. Speaking to Polygon, Jones says that when the development team at Visual Concepts first received Wii U development kits, they asked themselves what they would want on the console's GamePad if they could play NBA 2K13 on the Wii U. "One of the main things, and it's a philosophy I wish more people would take, is not trying to build your game around what the feature set of the hardware is, but analyze how your customer has interacted with the game up to that point and see if the hardware's feature set can further enhance that," Jones says. "Because you've been successful...

3 CommentsNBA 2K13 on Wii U to get patches and roster updates, says 2K Sports
By Samit Sarkar on Nov 28, 2012 11.28.12
The Wii U version of NBA 2K13 will be updated with patches and new rosters, said 2K Sports community manager Ronnie Singh on Twitter, a day after the release of the game's first patch. "Contrary to reports on forums," he said, the Wii U title will begin to receive that content "in the coming weeks." Singh gave no further details on the timetable, so the arrival and frequency of roster updates and patches on the Wii U remains to be seen. 2K Sports has done a poor job of releasing accurate rosters for the console and PC versions of NBA 2K13, leaving out numerous current NBA players and adjusting very few players' ratings. Developer Visual Concepts did release the game's first major patch yesterday on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, hitting the expected late November release window. It...

4 CommentsNBA 2K12, College Hoops 2K8 and All-Pro Football 2K8 servers might be down for good
By Tracey Lien on Nov 25, 2012 11.25.12
2K Sports appears to have taken down the servers for a number of its titles including All-Pro Football 2K8, NHL 2K10, College Hoops 2K8 and the year-old NBA 2K12. Users first noticed problems when trying to connect to the games' servers three weeks ago. A message telling players to check their connection kept appearing and players could not access online support. A number of users took the issue to the 2K Sports forum, where a customer support representative wrote: Christopher Z., Nov 05 11:04 (PST) As of 11/1/12, all of the 2K Sports servers (with the exception of NBA 2K13 and MLB 2K12) are now offline. We do not have any information that leads us to believe these online features will be turned back on. If you have any questions, please visit the following page: h...

22 CommentsNBA 2K13 review: Blueprint for success
By Samit Sarkar on Oct 12, 2012 10.12.12
The get-hype opening movie, cut with a performance of Jay-Z's "Public Service Announcement"; the matchup-specific pre-game vignettes, in striking grayscale; the post-game highlight reel for the player-of-the-game award — these video packages, combined with a soundtrack assembled by the rapper, add flair to the typically staid broadcast presentation. And as far as that goes, NBA 2K continues to feature the best commentary in sports games. NBA 2K13's commentators discuss ongoing storylines in the franchise mode and offer specific anecdotes about teams and players — including your own created character from the MyCareer mode. Hearing them talk up the brand-new Barclays Center made me consider switching my fandom from Knicks to Nets. Their natural flow convincingly evokes a...
