The get-hype opening movie, cut with a performance of Jay-Z's "Public Service Announcement"; the matchup-specific pre-game vignettes, in striking grayscale; the post-game highlight reel for the player-of-the-game award — these video packages, combined with a soundtrack assembled by the rapper, add flair to the typically staid broadcast presentation. And as far as that goes, NBA 2K continues to feature the best commentary in sports games. Virgin Gaming launches Xbox Tournaments app on Xbox Live with $100K tournament

Competitive gaming company Virgin Gaming launched an Xbox Tournaments app on Xbox Live today, with plans to bring sports-based competitive gaming to Xbox 360 owners. The free app allows players to check out Virgin Gaming's Xbox Live tournaments, enter them, play in them and track their progress on the leaderboards. It's currently available in the U.S., Canada and U.K., and launch titles for its first tournament include EA Sports' Madden NFL 13, NHL 13 and FIFA 13, along with 2K Sports' NBA 2K13. NBA 2K13/MLB 2K13 Combo Pack launching March 5 for $79.99 on Xbox 360, PS3

NBA 2K13 and the upcoming MLB 2K13 will be bundled into a $79.99 "Combo Pack" that launches March 5 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, publisher Take-Two Interactive announced today. They are the two remaining sports games released annually under the 2K Sports label. MLB 2K13, which also launches March 5 on Xbox 360 and PS3, will be available for $59.99, so the Combo Pack gives 2K Sports fans two full games at a $40 discount. 2K Sports did the same thing last year, with an MLB 2K12/NBA 2K12 Combo Pack. That package was available only on Xbox 360, and sold for $69.99. Take-Two reports 76 percent jump in Q3 revenue led by NBA 2K13 sales

Take-Two announced strong results today for the third quarter of its 2013 fiscal year, reporting a 76 percent year-over-year increase in net revenue led primarily by 4.5 million units shipped of NBA 2K13. For the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2012, Take-Two tallied net revenue of $415.8 million, a 76 percent jump over the $236.3 million of revenue for the same period in 2011. Net income for the quarter increased by 399 percent to $70.9 million from $14.2 million. According to Take-Two, the three "strongest contributors" to revenue in the quarter were NBA 2K13, Borderlands 2 and catalog sales of games including Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption. NBA 2K13 on Wii U to get patches and roster updates, says 2K Sports

The Wii U version of NBA 2K13 will be updated with patches and new rosters, said 2K Sports community manager Ronnie Singh on Twitter, a day after the release of the game's first patch. "Contrary to reports on forums," he said, the Wii U title will begin to receive that content "in the coming weeks." Singh gave no further details on the timetable, so the arrival and frequency of roster updates and patches on the Wii U remains to be seen. 2K Sports has done a poor job of releasing accurate rosters for the console and PC versions of NBA 2K13, leaving out numerous current NBA players and adjusting very few players' ratings. NBA 2K12, College Hoops 2K8 and All-Pro Football 2K8 servers might be down for good

2K Sports appears to have taken down the servers for a number of its titles including All-Pro Football 2K8, NHL 2K10, College Hoops 2K8 and the year-old NBA 2K12. Users first noticed problems when trying to connect to the games' servers three weeks ago. A message telling players to check their connection kept appearing and players could not access online support. A number of users took the issue to the 2K Sports forum, where a customer support representative wrote: Christopher Z., Nov 05 11:04 (PST) As of 11/1/12, all of the 2K Sports servers (with the exception of NBA 2K13 and MLB 2K12) are now offline. Over 40 PSOne Classics added to Vita store in PSN update

A large update to the PlayStation Store today adds pre-orders for Assassin's Creed 3, two full day-one downloadable titles, and 40 PSOne Classics compatible with the PlayStation Vita.
