Need for Speed Most Wanted review: paradise found

Negotiating Easy Drive is like texting while driving Criterion is determined to keep Need for Speed Most Wanted on the road. Races, cars, upgrades, objectives and multiplayer options can be accessed from the Easy Drive menu. A drop-down, Easy Drive sits in the right-hand corner and can be navigated via the D-pad. Negotiating Easy Drive is like texting while driving. I understand the practical appeal of accomplishing an inconsequential task while going somewhere faster than any land mammal ever has before, but it usually ends in a humiliating car wreck. In practice, I'd race against time to select a new vehicle mod from the Easy Drive menu before my Lamborghini careened into a parked car. To get players in fast cars quickly, Criterion hid nearly every unlockable vehicle...

See the Nintendo references hidden in Need for Speed Most Wanted on Wii U

Need for Speed Most Wanted launched earlier this week on Wii U, and a player has found a few nods to Nintendo in that version of the game. Check out the video above from YouTube user Kolma, who unlocked license plates referencing Mario ("Plumber"), Princess Peach ("Princess"), Yoshi ("Dinosaur") and Pokemon ("Caught Them All"). Most Wanted is also available on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. According to Alex Ward, creative director of developer Criterion Games, the Wii U version is the "definitive" and "best-looking" version of the game.

Need For Speed: Most Wanted Wii U trailer shows off new co-op gameplay

A new trailer for the Wii U port of Need for Speed: Most Wanted shows off the game's so-called "father and son" co-op mode with a father and son playing together. As the dad drives and evades the cops, the son changes the weather, time of day, and model of car his father is driving. When Polygon caught a look at the Wii U version of Need For Speed: Most Wanted last month, developer Criterion told us that it was the definitive version of the title thanks to this new form of cooperative gameplay. One player would drive with the Wii Remote, and another would use the Wii U gamepad to alter current conditions. Need For Speed: Most Wanted hits Wii U on March 19.

Need for Speed Most Wanted launching March 19 on Wii U

Need for Speed Most Wanted, the most recent entry in the long-running racing series, will launch March 19 on Wii U in North America and on March 21 in Europe and Australia, publisher Electronic Arts announced today. The box art, which you can see below, refers to the game as Need for Speed Most Wanted U. It will be available March 22 in New Zealand, and on March 14 in Japan. Criterion Games developed the Wii U version in-house. In an interview with Polygon earlier this month, creative director Alex Ward called it the "definitive version" of the game, which launched on Windows PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 last fall. It is playable on the GamePad alone, and offers a new co-op mode. It also includes the Ultimate Speed Pack DLC, which EA released in December on the other platforms.

Criterion reaches into history for next three Need for Speed Most Wanted DLC packs

Criterion believes it is delivering the kind of content that will satisfy those fans with its next three Most Wanted DLC packs: Terminal Velocity, Need for Speed Movie Legends and Need for Speed Heroes. In each piece of DLC, the studio is reaching back into history — into its own past, into the canon of car chase films and into the legacy of the Need for Speed franchise itself, respectively. At the same time, said senior designer Chris Roberts during a recent hands-on demo, Criterion is adding pieces to the game that evolve its competitive elements. With the new mechanics and areas, the studio is looking to redefine what's possible in Most Wanted, and pave the way for fans to sink dozens more hours into the game. Alongside the DLC packs, Criterion will deliver a free Most Wanted title...

Need for Speed Most Wanted on Wii U the 'definitive version' of the title, says Criterion

Need for Speed Most Wanted on Wii U is the definitive, best-looking version of the game, according to creative director Alexander J. Ward. "When we sat down to think about bringing Most Wanted to Wii U, we thought of this: in a car game, what can the second player in the room do?" Ward told Polygon. "We could have just released a vanilla version of the game, put it out and say, ‘Hey, it's Most Wanted on Wii U.' But really, Nintendo's challenge there is to allow others to interact with the main player using the GamePad." Like Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U, the GamePad gives that second player the chance to participate. The new Co-Driver mode, called "Father-and-son mode" among Criterion developers, allows the GamePad player to guide, help or even hinder the player using a...

Need for Speed Most Wanted on Wii U playable on GamePad only, includes new local co-op mode

Criterion's Need for Speed Most Wanted on Wii U will be fully playable on the GamePad only and will include additional downloadable content as well as a new local co-op mode, publisher Electronic Arts announced today. In the new Co-Driver two-player co-op mode, one player drives using a classic Wii Remote controller or Wii U Pro Controller while the other provides navigational assistance using the Wii U GamePad. The GamePad will display an interactive real-time map of the city through which players can tap and swipe to distract police, control the amount of traffic and activate performance enhancers on the driver's car as well as toggle between day and night. EA has also confirmed the entire game is playable off-screen using the GamePad only. The GamePad can also be used to switch...

Need for Speed Most Wanted on Wii U launching March 14 in Japan with GamePad-only play

The Wii U version of Need for Speed Most Wanted will be available in Japan March 14 with GamePad-specific features including the ability to play the game entirely on the touchscreen tablet controller, publisher Electronic Arts announced recently. According to a Japanese press release, the game will offer a now-standard usage of the GamePad during typical gameplay: The device will show the game world's map while the player is driving around the city of Fairhaven. In addition, players will be able to take the game off the television and play only on the GamePad. We've reached out to EA to ask for more details and release dates in other regions, and will update this article with any information we receive. Update: An EA representative told Polygon, "We have no further information at...
