Relive the Stanley Cup Final in NHL 15 demo Aug. 26 on PS4 and Xbox One

NHL 15 publisher Electronic Arts will release a demo for the game on Aug. 26, the company announced today during Gamescom 2014, alongside the release of a new gameplay trailer. The NHL 15 demo will feature the same matchup as the 2014 Stanley Cup Final: the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings. Both teams' home arenas — Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center, respectively — will be playable in a full game of three two-minute periods. Three new camera angles and three difficulty settings will be available, along with a practice mode for players to get their ice legs under them if they're new to the franchise. Today's announcement comes shortly after Madden NFL 15 developer EA Tiburon confirmed it won't be making a demo for that game. That leaves EA Access on Xbox One as the...

NHL 15 trailer obeys the laws of physics for players and the puck

NHL 15 will be the first entry in the NHL series on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and a new trailer from Electronic Arts illustrates the ways in which new consoles deliver real-time physics for all 12 players on the ice and the puck itself. The upgraded physics engine can now account for collisions involving more than two players. According to developer EA Canada, that will allow NHL 15 to realistically simulate scrambles in front of the net, pile-ups with multiple players and other complex collisions. And the revamped puck physics, which were developed partly by a physicist who previously worked on the Large Hadron Collider, allow for complex interactions between the disc of hard, frozen rubber and everything else in an arena: the ice, the boards, the net, the pipes, the players, the...

See how NHL 15's overhauled player models make a difference on the ice

NHL 15 features player models that were completely redone for the series' debut on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and developer EA Canada explained why that matters in a new developer diary released today. Each of the 12 player models on the ice consists of three layers: the body, equipment and jersey. And thanks to technology that EA refers to as "dynamic cloth," uniforms will move realistically in response to the body and pads beneath them, as well as external collisions with pucks, sticks, other players and more. According to EA, there are now goals that can be scored in NHL 15 that weren't possible before — a puck may squeeze past the crook of the goalie's elbow where it would've met an invisible wall on the previous console generation. NHL 15 will be released Sept. 9 on PS4 and Xbox...
