Developer Team Ninja strove to make Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus for PlayStation Vita as gory as Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge on Wii U, according to a recent interview with studio head Yosuke Hayashi on the PlayStation Blog. In response to a question regarding the original PlayStation 3 Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2's purple smoke-bleeding enemies and the quick disappearance of severed limbs, and whether the Vita version would include more gore, Hayashi said the goal of the Sigma 2 Plus was to intensify the violence. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus will release Feb. 26 in North America on PlayStation Vita, according to the game's official website. Developer Team Ninja announced the Vita port at an event during the 2012 Tokyo Game Show. The Vita version of the 2009 PlayStation 3 action game (which was itself an update of the 2008 Xbox 360 game Ninja Gaiden 2) will feature an easy mode that blocks automatically, touchscreen controls as well as a time-based Ninja Race mode and a Tag Mission mode that allows players to swap characters. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus' Feb. 28 Japanese release had previously been announced. According to the official website, it will be released in Europe on March 1.

Team Ninja's port of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus for the PlayStation Vita will have an additional lower-level mode for new Ninja Gaiden players, along with modified controls to allow throwing opponents via the touchscreen, reports Siliconera. The new lower "Hero" difficulty will make Ryu automatically guard against attacks if the player begins to struggle in battle. Additional game modes have also been added. In Ninja Race, Ryu can snag special items as he runs through levels for a speed boost, and attack power bonuses are piled on on as rewards for chaining enemy kills. Tag Mission mode lets players switch between Ryu, Ayane, Momiji and Rachel as they complete its missions. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus is coming to PlayStation Vita on Feb. 28 for ¥6,090 (about $74). Team Ninja announced a port of Ninja Gaiden 2 for the PlayStation Vita at an event in Tokyo tonight, saying that Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Plus will be released early next year. The Ninja Gaiden developer released a Vita port of the original Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the launch of the PlayStation Vita. That game was known as Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus. The studio will also release a Ninja Gaiden game for mobile phones through platform holder Mobage this week in Japan.
