You won't hear too much Latin taunting in Nosgoth, the free-to-play multiplayer shooter/blood-eater based in the Legacy of Kain franchise's gothic world. In fact, there's not a lot of familiar ground to tread; it's a far more action-oriented, competitive affair than its predecessors. There's little to no soul reaving. You can't drink a person's blood from a city block away. Fortunately, Nosgoth incorporates some neat asymmetrical multiplayer ideas, making vamps look and feel powerful, and making humans taste delicious. In this Overview, Justin and I play through a couple rounds of Nosgoth, figuring out how it stacks up against the golden days of our youth. Not just in comparison to the Legacy of Kain series, but also to Austin Powers, because this episode really got away from us.

Players who make in-game purchases in Nosgoth, the upcoming free-to-play multiplayer title set in the Legacy of Kain universe, won't be buying items that are better than free items, said publisher Square Enix in a blog post today. "Nosgoth is a free-to-play game — but it's not pay-to-win," said George Kelion, community manager at Square Enix London Studios, in a post on the game's website. "One of the key goals has been to create a fair experience that doesn't penalize players who don’t spend money in the game — as such Nosgoth doesn't include items, weapons or abilities that are inherently better." Square Enix refers to the items that players can buy as "sidegrades" as opposed to "upgrades." Kelion explained that the paid items will be better in some respects but worse in others: For...

The company is also planning on bringing sequels of popular franchises Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy Agito to mobile.
