Pier Solar HD delayed again due to certification hiccups

The release date for Pier Solar HD, the Kickstarted remake of homebrew 2010 role-playing game Pier Solar and the Great Architects, has been pushed back again due to the certification process on its planned various platforms, developer WaterMelon announced. "Microsoft already evaluated Pier Solar as well but we failed some internal requirements on the certification and we're correcting them for the next submission," the blog post reads. "This also impacts Wii U and PlayStation(s) submissions since we want to send it as clean as possible so that we don't get another failed certification. Luckily, the process doesn't take as long as we thought, so the perspectives to getting a release date gets better. As soon as we're certified on all platforms we'll announce the date and put it on the...

Pier Solar HD delayed again to June

Pier Solar HD, the Kickstarted remake of homebrew 2010 role-playing game Pier Solar and the Great Architects, had its release date pushed back again, this time to June, developer Watermelon announced. In a backers-only update to its Kickstarter campaign, the developer noted it is looking to launch the game just before E3 2014, which begins on June 10. Previously, the game was delayed from its original launch window of March to April. The delay is largely in part due to last-minute improvements and features added by Watermelon in the last few weeks, as well as the game's ongoing pass through certification for its planned platforms. Watermelon noted that it's still patching up a few last-minute bugs, which the studio felt uncomfortable leaving in the game to rush it out the door. "The...

Pier Solar HD 3DS version could follow Wii U release

Pier Solar HD, the remake of a 2010 Genesis RPG, is due to be released on multiple platforms this spring. According to a new interview, a 3DS version could also be planned. Talking to Nintendo Enthusiast, Tulio Goncalves, president of developer Watermelon said that plans to make use of Wii U's second screen could also prove useful in a 3DS version. "On Wii U, we're definitely putting the second screen to good use, a feature that will be exclusive of that platform," he said. "Well, maybe not for long if we end up making it to the 3DS, but that's for later. We planned a few functions for the second screen that will add to the gameplay; I'm sure the Wii U players will enjoy them." He said that the Wii U version will be released in April. Previous updates from the company have stated that...

Nostalgia, now: How Pier Solar, the Genesis's last RPG, came to be

Thousands of miles apart Thousands of miles apart Tulio Adriano Cardoso Gonçalves. Gwénaël "Fonzie" Godde. WaterMelon Co. is sort of a tough company to describe, if only because it's been so malleable over the roughly eight years since the studio's inception. It's seen literally hundreds of members drop in and out of its ranks in this time, some of them volunteering to help the small-scale developer only to bail within a matter of days. At its core, though, WaterMelon revolves around two men who have always lived thousands of miles apart. Tulio Adriano Cardoso Gonçalves is, to put it simply, exactly what you'd imagine a video game developer to be like. He's a transplanted Brazilian, an average-looking guy with an average-looking haircut. He seems pleasant and nerdy,...
