PlanetSide 2 developer Sony Online Entertainment launched Game Update 8 today, and said its new content and features make it the MMO first-person shooter's biggest update yet.
Headlining the update is a brand-new armored vehicle, the speedy Harasser assault buggy, which can hold three people and is built for hit-and-run attacks with a driver, rumble seat and top-mounted turret. You can see the Harasser in action in the video above.
Game Update 8 also includes new content and features for Mechanized Assault Exo-Suits (MAX), PlanetSide 2's mech suits. Each empire-specific MAX now has a set of long-range anti-vehicle weapons. Sony Online Entertainment added that it tweaked the balance for nearly all weapons and a few tanks, made some improvements to the user interface and fixed numerous...
The latest video in PlanetSide 2's Roadmap series runs down changes that will be made in the MMO shooter's update this month, including tweaks to the Platoon Management window, vehicles and membership certification points.
According to the video above, players with memberships to PlanetSide 2 will progressively receive more certification points per day. The amount of points depends on the level of your membership, ranging from cooper (lowest) to Auraxium (highest).
The Flash vehicle also now has a secondary passenger seat on the back behind the driver. Players sitting in the passenger seat will be able to use all weapons and items other than deployables. The vehicle also has a new cloak ability that will throw up a temporarily invisibility shield while the player is in Infiltrator...
A new behind-the-scenes video from the creators of PlanetSide 2 provides an inside look at how the audio team creates the game's music.
You can watch the video above to see the team at work. They're responsible for all the game's sounds, from animals to gunfire. According to SOE audio director Rodney Gates, the team worked hard to create different "identities" for different game aspects.
"When we started working on PlanetSide 2, one of the things that we wanted to do was establish an identity for each of the different factions that we had," Gates said. "We wanted the Terran Republic to sound like the big, bold orchestra. We wanted the New Conglomerate to sound very different, because those guys are pretty rebellious ... their style kind of leaned toward a blues-rock sound."

PlanetSide 2 developer Sony Online Entertainment is aware of players cheating with aimbots, and "will continue to be extremely aggressive in detecting and banning players who use cheats," reports PCGamesN.
As illustrated in the video above, an aimbot allows a PlanetSide 2 player to look down his sights as soon as an enemy is in view, while the bot does the rest — immediately focusing the crosshairs on the foe's head. In addition, the hack makes other players' usernames, health and distance show up, which allows the aimbot user to surprise unsuspecting players and take them down before they know what hit them.
"[Sony Online Entertainment] takes player use of in-game cheats very seriously," said Sony Online Entertainment representative Taina Rodriguez. "Players who use cheats ruin the...
