A U.S. release of a special edition Nintendo 3DS XL bearing Pikachu's likeness appears imminent, based on a handful of teases from Nintendo of America. Nintendo began hinting at the release of the bright yellow 3DS XL in a recently released commercial for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, which hits North America on March 24. The official Pokémon Twitter account offered its own tease today, posting an image of the famous Pokémon and writing, "We've got some exciting news for Pikachu fans coming up tomorrow!" The news may have been spoiled at retail, however, as a member of the CheapAssGamer forums posted a photo of a shipment of the 3DS XL, claiming a March 24 release date. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity's latest trailer offers a look at dungeon exploration and battle gameplay. Check out the trailer above to see Pokémon partner up, scamper through dungeons and take down enemies. Unlike most Pokémon games, Gates to Infinity takes place from a Pokémon perspective. Players can choose from Pikachu, Snivy, Oshawott, Tepig or Axew to explore more than 20 dungeons and collect treasure. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity will be released on March 24 in North America for Nintendo 3DS. Players will be able to download the first DLC pack for free until April 30.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity DLC will be released in North America

Nintendo will release additional downloadable content for Nintendo 3DS title Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity in North America, the company announced today. Previously announced only for Japan, add-ons for Gates to Infinity will be available beginning at launch on March 24 and released in packs on the 3DS eShop. Until April 30, all players can download the first piece of DLC for free, the Poké Forest Mystery Dungeon bonus level. Three DLC packs will be available on launch day, with additional packs scheduled for release between launch day and April. These packs include additional dungeons of varying difficulty, new equippable items for Pokemon and new Pokemon for player use. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, released in Japan as Magnagate & The Infinite Labyrinth, Gates to Infinity in November 2012, recently received three new downloadable content packs. For 150 yen, players can purchase the Pokapoka Mountain pack, which includes fire Pokémon Tepig, Flareon and more. Pokapoka Mountain also adds exclusive items such as the Twisted Headband, Pass Scarf and Friend Bow. Sweets Road, priced at 200 yen, is a dungeon where players can level and search for dessert items. The third pack, Ultimate Desert, is meant for more experienced players. It includes 99 floors to explore and players are only allowed to bring one Pokémon at a time. The latest Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title for the Nintendo 3DS, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, is coming to North America on March 24, publisher Nintendo announced today.
