Puddle coming to North American Wii U eShop Jan. 31

Puddle, a puzzle-platformer from Neko Entertainment which launched on the European Wii U eShop alongside the console, is making its overdue arrival in North America Jan. 31, according to Nintendo World Report. Puddle tasks the player with tilting the Wii U GamePad to maneuver the world around a titular glob of water, sending it careening through pipes and trapdoors in a race from start to finish. Along the way, the player must keep their liquid away from hazardous pitfalls and heat sources, which causes said liquid to evaporate, naturally. We've reached out to Nintendo to confirm the release date and price of the game. Puddle is also currently available for XBLA, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

'Pocket Planes' now available on Android

Pocket Planes, NimbleBit's airline management simulator, is now available on Android devices via the Mobage gaming network. The game originally launched on iOS in June and quickly became a hit; iOS users have downloaded the free-to-play title over 2.4 million times, according to NimbleBit and publishing partner DeNA, the Japanese parent company of Mobage and ngmoco. For more on Mobage, check out our coverage of the company's PAX Prime booth. NimbleBit co-owner Ian Marsh said he is excited to grow Pocket Planes' player base by bringing Android users into the fold. "Not only has Mobage helped streamline the publishing process," said Marsh, "but we have seen a tremendous amount of success expanding the reach of last year's launch of Pocket Frogs on Android devices through the network." 'Unfinished Swan' hopes to be the best 15 minutes of a game, over and over again

In Unfinished Swan players paint their way through a white on white world, using blobs of black paint to add depth and substance to their surroundings. But that artful game mechanic is really just the first of many ways that players will explore the storybook world of an orphaned boy and his hunt through the life and memories of his dead mother. "We liked how novel the experience (of exploring the world with paint) is but it begins to get a little bit old," said Ian Dallas, creative director at Giant Sparrow. "Rather than take one mechanic and build around that, we tried to take the first 15 minutes of a great game and do it over and over again." What that means is that each of the Playstation game's four chapters will have at least one primary core mechanic, sometimes more, Dallas...

'Rain' coming to PlayStation Network

Sony just announced a new game, Rain, coming to the PlayStation Network later this year. It's being developed by Japan Studios. Rain stars a small boy who, one day, becomes invisible. The only way he can be seen is by walking out into the rain, as raindrops coat his skin, giving him form. When not in the rain, the only indication he's present is in the rippling of puddles or the appearance of muddy footsteps. Brief gameplay snippets shown during Sony's GamesCom press conference imply a 3D puzzle/platformer with some stealth elements, as the boy maneuvers over boxes and through environments urban. It seems like part of the challenge is for the player to keep track of where the boy is at any given time, especially when he's completely invisibile. This requires a keen observation of these...

IO Interactive: 'Hitman Absolution' on PC won't be 'just a port' will include Steamworks support

Hitman Absolution won't be a simple port when it comes to the PC, it will be a "complete experience," IO Interactive's Jonas Meyer told a gathering of press in Cologne, Germany today. "The features in our PC build ensures that Hitman Absolution on PC is the complete PC experience and not just a port," he said. Meyer says that's possible because the developers are building the game with their proprietary Glacier 2 engine. While the engine started out as a PC DX10 project, evolutions of the engine later added DX11 support and high end features that consoles simply can't support. The focus on cutting edge PC tech helps the team create a game that follows the "stylized hyper-realism" look of the game. That looks includes things like bloom, glare, lens flares, saturated color, high controls...
