Capcom reported financial results for its 2012 fiscal year today, posting a significant drop in net income due to restructuring costs as the company shifts focus for a future in which it expects development costs to rise on next-generation consoles. The Japanese publisher's 2012 fiscal year ran from April 1, 2012, through March 31, 2013. Capcom tallied net sales of 94.08 billion yen ($953.2 million) for the full year, a 14.6 percent jump from the 82.07 billion yen ($831.3 million) it recorded in the 2011 fiscal year. But net income dropped by 55.8 percent from 6.72 billion yen ($68.1 million) in fiscal 2011 to 2.97 billion yen ($30.1 million) this past year. PlayStation Plus members will be able to pick up Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny as a free download for PS Vita following this week's PlayStation Network update, according to a post on the PlayStation Blog. For non-members, Broken Destiny will be available for $39.99. The update also includes a Resident Evil sale on several titles in the franchise, including Resident Evil 6, priced at $14.69 for PS Plus members or $20.99 for non-members. For the full list, check out the post here. Puzzle platformer Thomas Was Alone will also be discounted for PS Plus members 20 percent tomorrow for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita cross-buy.

Valve and Capcom will merge their zombie-infested worlds in an upcoming crossover between the PC versions of Resident Evil 6 and Left 4 Dead 2. The Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 project will add the four survivors of Left 4 Dead 2 — Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle — to Resident Evil 6's PC-exclusive mode The Mercenaries No Mercy. Resident Evil 6 for PC will also add two Left 4 Dead special infected, the Witch and a miniature version of the Tank, to its stable of enemies. Left 4 Dead 2 players can show their love for Double Fine Productions' Brutal Legend — which was recently re-released on Windows PC through Steam — thanks to the Steam Workshop. A pair of axes, both wielded by Brutal Legend's Eddie Riggs, are now available as melee weapons in Valve's zombie apocalypse shooter. The Brutal Legend Battle Axe and Flying V Guitar are two of the many downloads available in Left 4 Dead 2's Workshop, with no additional purchase required to nab the weapon cameos. Resident Evil 6's newest multiplayer mode, Siege, will be available for Xbox 360 March 5 and PlayStation 3 March 6, Capcom announced. In Siege mode, one team takes on the role of human players defending BSAA rookies, who the other teams attacks. Siege mode was announced alongside the Windows PC version of Resident Evil 6, which included the exclusive mode The Mercenaries: No Mercy. Capcom will also release a map pack bundle on the same day that includes Rail Yard, High Seas Fortress, Catacombs, Requiem for War, Liquid Fire, Rooftop Mission and Creature Workshop. Nvidia and Capcom released the official Resident Evil 6 benchmark program, which will tell potential players how the just-released PC version will run on their Windows machines. The minimum system requirements include a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz or AMD Athlon X2 2.8 Ghz processor with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of free hard drive space and an Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS. You can download the app from Nvidia's Resident Evil 6 website. Capcom revealed the program last month in a press release that also detailed the PC version's exclusive mode called The Mercenaries: No Mercy, which includes extra enemies and more opportunities to earn higher scores than its console counterparts. Microsoft will kick off its Xbox Live Ultimate Game Sale next Tuesday, Feb. 26, offering discounts of up to 80 percent on over 60 Xbox 360 Games on Demand, according to a post on Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb's blog. "Challenges" during development and "inadequate organizational collaboration" led to Resident Evil 6 performing beneath Capcom's expectations, the company stated in a Q&A accompanying its recent financial earnings report. Capcom said that while it believes having sold 5 million copies of the game is "proof that [Resident Evil 6] is a popular title," it has not reached a "clear conclusion" regarding its under-performance. Capcom credited Resident 6, Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) HD for its significant increase in profits in the first nine months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013 in its latest earnings report. The company's net sales for the nine month period was 72.6 billion yen, up 44.6 percent from the same time last year. Its operating income rose to 9.8 billion yen, up 45.9 percent from the same time last year. Its ordinary income was 10 billion yen, up 72.6 percent, and its net income for the current period was 6.6 billion yen, up 104.9 percent from last year.
