Capcom explains how it markets Resident Evil to grow its audience

Capcom's Resident Evil franchise is now in its 18th year of existence, and because the series has fans around the globe, it's important for the company to promote Resident Evil to different people using different methods in different regions. "We change the points that we showcase to match the culture and characteristics of the regions," explained Capcom officials in a retrospective feature on Resident Evil yesterday. According to the article, Capcom focuses on Resident Evil's "horror atmosphere" in marketing for North America, while it highlights the series' characters in Japan. That distinction is evident in each region's unique cover artwork for the most recent main entry in the franchise, 2012's Resident Evil 6: Capcom also touched on the fact that Resident Evil's oldest fans...

Capcom 2013 financial results sees revenue climb despite poor game sales

Capcom revenue climbed by the millions this fiscal year, rising from ¥82 billion ($820 million) to ¥94 billion ($940 million) in revenue according to the publisher's full year financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013. This is despite a lack of results from the company's increased efforts in digital returns, alongside a number of games that failed to meet sales targets. Capcom's Digital Contents Business, a sector made up of console, Windows PC and mobile titles, saw profits fall by over 50 percent. Even more significantly, this arm of the company accounts for just over 67 percent of its total income. Similarly, only three of Capcom's software releases reached over 1 million units in sales. DmC: Devil May Cry saw sales of 1.15 million, failing to reach its expected...

Resident Evil: Revelations review: secret weapon

Revelations' bloated story carries all the worst tendencies of the Resident Evil franchise Set between the events of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, Revelations sees original series protagonists Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine working together once again. Now superstar counter-terrorism agents, Jill and Chris find themselves thousands of miles apart but investigating the same incident: an abandoned ship named the Queen Zenobia that may or may not be a secret base for a shady terrorist organization. Things only get more complex (and dumb) from there. Revelations' convoluted plot breathlessly ties together multiple government organizations, a host of absurd twists and secret puppetmasters behind everything — though it's difficult to hate or even care about the...

Capcom reports fiscal 2012 results, reiterates focus on streamlining business and cutting costs

Capcom reported financial results for its 2012 fiscal year today, posting a significant drop in net income due to restructuring costs as the company shifts focus for a future in which it expects development costs to rise on next-generation consoles. The Japanese publisher's 2012 fiscal year ran from April 1, 2012, through March 31, 2013. Capcom tallied net sales of 94.08 billion yen ($953.2 million) for the full year, a 14.6 percent jump from the 82.07 billion yen ($831.3 million) it recorded in the 2011 fiscal year. But net income dropped by 55.8 percent from 6.72 billion yen ($68.1 million) in fiscal 2011 to 2.97 billion yen ($30.1 million) this past year.
