It knows what it wants to be: an outrageous exercise in player power fantasy. It succeeds, offering a glut of interesting challenges and a suite of bonafide super powers with which to take them on. And it does so while respecting the player's choice to cause chaos with whatever character identity they prefer. You play as the leader of the Saints, once a street gang that's become the most powerful (and popular) organization on Earth. After an over-the-top prologue that sees you literally saving the world, you are thrust into the presidency of the United States, and subject to a devastating alien attack. You spend most of your time alternating between story missions, side quests and simply running amok in the huge open world. Gameplay comes in a wide variety of flavors, with much of...

As if Saints Row 4 wasn't open-endedly bizarre enough, developing studio Volition announced at PAX 2014 that they will release the official software development kit for the game on PC, which is music to the ears of modders. Volition, as announced earlier, also is reconditioning the game with Saints Row 4: Re-Elected, a port of last year's game to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There will be a full release of that game, with all of its DLC, titled Gat Out of Hell. Both are available Jan. 27, 2015.

Last year's Saints Row 4 is being ported to current-gen systems by High Voltage Software and branded as Saints Row 4: Re-Elected, it was revealed at a PAX panel this afternoon. The project was announced alongside a new Saints Row expansion titled Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, which is being developed by series creator Volition alongside High Voltage. The port will be available for $29.99 including all Saints Row 4 DLC, or for $49.99 as a bundle with Gat out of Hell. Both will be available January 27, 2015. The developer teased new features like voice commands (examples given: "motherfucker" and "son of a bitch") along with modding so players can create their own weapons. We'll have more on Saints Row 4: Re-Elected, as well as Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, in the next couple days.

A creative Saints Row 4 fan is currently working on a functioning replica of the game's iconic Dubstep Gun, as shown in a gallery on the user's DeviantArt page. Those familiar with Saints Row 4 know that the Dubstep Gun isn't your typical projectile shooter; this menacing weapon blasts opponents with sweet tunes and takes them out by dropping the bass. Artist "KazeXenami" is building his replica out of wood and a complex web of circuitry to bring life to the gun's speaker. KazeXenami has also posted several videos to his YouTube channel demonstrating his work, blasting music from the gun's completed speakerbox and showing how all its different parts light up. Additionally, KazeXenami's Dubstep Gun isn't just another remake of the plastic model that shipping with special collector's...

When THQ declared bankruptcy and dissolved, it abandoned its office, leaving boxes, games, marketing materials and more behind, according to a gallery created by Reddit user Soulessgingr. The Redditor works for a company that moved into THQ's former headquarters. According to Soulessgingr, the THQ office includes abandoned hardware like cables, monitors, routers and TVs. "It seems the building owner paid THQ for all the stuff they left," Soulessgingr wrote. But more important to video game fans, the office is also littered with video game awards, boxes and promotional materials for former THQ games like South Park: The Stick of Truth, which found new life at Ubisoft, Saints Row the Third: Enter the Dominatrix, a planned standalone expansion that was eventually incorporated into S...

2013 was a banner year for the game industry. Microsoft and Sony brought us into the eighth generation of consoles with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively, while the continuing rise of indie developers meant that self-publishing games on those new systems became an important battleground in the competition between the platform holders. That's all suspended for the time being, though, as the year winds down and the holidays arrive. We've collected holiday cards for 2013 from developers, publishers, platform holders, public-relations agencies and other companies in the gallery below, and we'll continue to update this post as we receive more of them. We'll start off the collection with a special animated card from ReedPOP, the company behind New York Comic Con, all the Penny...
