Kill demons in Shadow Warrior with The Walking Dead's ice axe

Players of Devolver Digital's remake of first person shooter Shadow Warrior can now slay demons uses a weapon from Telltale Games' The Walking Dead, the company announced today. As part of a collaboration between Telltale and developer Flying Wild Hog, players can equip hero Lo Wang with an ice axe as an alternative to his standard katana. The weapon was used in The Walking Dead by character Molly in the latter episodes of Telltale's series."As a fan of The Walking Dead, I'm super excited about this fantastic cross promotion with our beloved Shadow Warrior," Devolver Digital wrote in a press statement, under the guise of fictional CFO Fork Parker. "As a fan of money, this certainly helps quite a bit as well." Shadow Warrior features a handful of other crossover weapons, including S...

Viscera Cleanup Detail cleaning up Shadow Warrior's bloody mess

A Viscera Cleanup Detail standalone mini-game for Shadow Warrior has been launched, available free for owners of Flying Wild Hog's gory combat game. RuneStorm's Viscera Cleanup Detail is all about a janitor cleaning up the gore and body-parts left behind after a space-marine epic battle. Shadow Warrior is an over-the-top first-person combat game based on an equally over-the-top '90s hit of the same name. "When our team first saw Viscera Cleanup Detail on Steam Greenlight we absolutely loved with the idea of a person out there that had to clean up after big battles in FPS or horror games," said Michal Szustak, studio head at Flying Wild Hog. "RuneStorm has done a tremendous job in taking a key scene from Shadow Warrior and recreating its aftermath to form a fun and hilariously...

Shadow Warrior review: six-demon bag

Developer Flying Wild Hog's reboot/remake/reimagining of the 1997 3D Realms game has an odd collection of expectations and obligations to meet — or to ignore. The original game was very much of its era, predicated on Duke Nukem-style humor with a healthy dose of racist jokes to boot, but it also added melee combat to distinguish itself from its peers. 2013's Shadow Warrior eases up on the former, and commits more fully to the latter. At first, anyway. But Shadow Warrior can't quite manage to juggle its melee potential with its shooter framing, resulting in a game that feels like it could have been so much more than it is. Shadow Warrior starts well, despite a main character named Lo Wang — a half-Chinese half-Japanese bundle of nerd fan-service and dick jokes, because wang. Lo Wang...

Shadow Warrior hails the return of Lo Wang with Stan Bush

In a two-pronged attack on your nostalgia pleasure center, publisher Devolver Digital marks the release of Shadow Warrior — Flying Wild Hog's re-imagining of the 3D Realms' 1997 shooter and slice 'em up— with a launch trailer set to the music of '80s rocker Stan Bush. Best known for its association with The Transformers: The Movie, Bush's "The Touch" is used to comedic effect in Shadow Warrior's latest gameplay trailer, which is soft on Wang puns but replete with fabricated accolades. The trailer is also stuffed with dozens of grisly deaths by gun, grenade and katana, illustrating how over-the-top and violent the new Shadow Warrior is compared to the late '90s original. Shadow Warrior will be available through Steam,, the Humble store and Get Games for Windows PC. The title...

Shadow Warrior trailer showcases the revival's lesser-known features

A new trailer for Shadow Warrior shows off the game's features that probably won't make it to the back of the box. Besides things like "brutal katana combat" or "explosive gunplay," Shadow Warrior contains "excessive fireworks" and "fully destructable bicycles." Its animals get special treatment with "advanced fish physics" and rabbits doing what rabbits do best. Shadow Warrior hits Windows PC on Sept. 26.

Shadow Warrior priced at $39.99, pre-order offers revealed

Flying Wild Hog's Shadow Warrior reboot, Shadow Warrior, will cost $39.99 in North America, €34.99 in Europe and £29.99 in the U.K. when it launches Sept. 26, publisher Devolver Digital announced today. The company also revealed pre-order bonuses for three of the online retailers at which Shadow Warrior will be available: Steam, GOG and the Humble Store on the game's website. (It will also be sold at Get Games, but no pre-order is available there at this time.) Anyone who pre-orders the game at the first three places listed above will receive 15 percent off the regular price, bringing the cost down to $33.99. Steam pre-orders also include an exclusive in-game weapon, the Zilla Enterprises Z45 katana, and a coupon redeemable for 75 percent off Flying Wild Hog's Hard Reset or any...

Shadow Warrior remake is more bloody than the original

Flying Wild Hog's Shadow Warrior remake is more over-the-top, bloody and violent than the 1997 original first-person shooter, writer Stawomir Uliasz told Polygon. During a demo shown at Gamescom today, we saw a gameplay segment set in a temple overrun with zombies. Players have a number of weapons at their disposal to take them down: guns, katanas, a handful of magical powers and the ability to rip out demons' hearts with their hands. Players can even rip off a demon's head, stick their fingers into the neck and shoot fire out of its mouth at opponents. The developer strove for a level of violence that was almost comic book-like, said Uliasz, or like a "Hong Kong B-level action film." The graphical power of current PCs has allowed them to do this, he said. "The graphics are better...

Shadow Warrior Classic now free-to-play on Steam

Shadow Warrior Classic, the updated version of 3D Realms' Shadow Warrior, is now available as a free-to-play title on Steam. The promotion comes from developer Flying Wild Hog and publisher Devolver Digital, the companies that are collaborating for the upcoming "total reimagining" of Shadow Warrior, the 1997 first-person shooter. The remake will simply be called Shadow Warrior, and is set for release this year on Windows PC and next-generation consoles. Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital originally released a Facebook app that dispensed Steam keys redeemable for free copies of Shadow Warrior Classic, but they shut it down after hackers broke into the app and stole all the keys. In response, the companies made the game free-to-play on Steam and said the promotion would run "for a...
