Silent Hunter Online enters open beta

Silent Hunter Online, Ubisoft Blue Byte's browser-based, free-to-play naval warfare strategy game, is now available through an open beta, the developer announced. In Silent Hunter Online, players command a submarine during World War II. In addition to engaging enemies in combat and managing flotillas, players will also team up with friends for multiplayer missions. According to Blue Byte, Silent Hunter Online has a "strong focus on multiplayer," and allows players to experience any mission cooperatively — a first for the series. Beta sign-ups are available through the game's website. Players could previously sign up for the closed beta in August.


Silent Hunter Online historical advisor talks authenticity and accuracy

Ubisoft has released a video interview with Silent Hunter Online's historical advisor, Martin Siedlaczek, in which he discusses the ways in which the game achieves historical accuracy and authenticity. Siedlaczek, who is something of a war historian and an avid collector of military material, helped the development team of Silent Hunter Online ensure that their depictions of everything from the ships to the ship interiors to the weapons were historically accurate. He also consulted on the developers' designs, technical stats, and worked with the team so that the gameplay reflected what soldiers would have done in battles at sea. Subsim founder gives his thoughts on Ubisoft's Silent Hunter Online

Neal Stevens, the founder of — a website that was started for naval historians and is one of the biggest resources for submarine games — tested Ubisoft's Silent Hunter Online and shared his thoughts on the free-to-play warship simulation game. In the video, Stevens talks about his experience with the game's multiplayer mode, the features he liked the most and how its compares to his predecessors. 'Silent Hunter Online' is a global war with 'endless' missions

All missions in the upcoming free-to-play naval warfare title, Silent Hunter Online, will be playable with up to four players, as users take part in real-time missions to work toward the completion of server-wide missions, Ubisoft announced today. The browser-based title will feature a minimum of eight campaigns, a tutorial, and a mission generator that offers an "endless" number of missions at the game's launch. Different gameplay modes and objectives include convoy attacks, special target hunts, as well as reconnaissance missions. Players can expect to see numerous historical boat types that the player can either command or destroy, including up to 10 playable German U-boats, more than 20 authentic enemy ship types, and five different torpedo ships. 'Silent Hunter Online' closed beta coming soon

Silent Hunter Online, a browser-based free-to-play naval warfare strategy game coming from Ubisoft, is accepting sign-ups for a closed beta period. Ubisoft announced the game with a teaser trailer, seen below, at Gamescom 2012. Silent Hunter Online is a massively multiplayer game, in a way: all players contribute to the progress of world events and can team up with allies in "Wolfpacks" to launch joint attacks, torpedoes be damned. Silent Hunter Online is in development at Blue Byte Software. The studio is also working on Anno Online, another free-to-play browser-based title, for Ubisoft.
