A Sly Cooper-based character vignette was released by Sony in time for the European and Australian launch of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on March 29 and March 28, respectively. The game is the fourth title in the Sly Cooper stealth-platformer series. While previous titles in the Sly anthology were developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Thieves in Time is the work of Sanzaru Games, the studio that previously ported Sly PlayStation 2 titles to PS3. Have a look at some of the in-game action that's already been available throughout North America since early February. The PS3 release gained a 6 out of 10 from Polygon in a review that stated: "The bad pacing in level design, the overwhelming mix of things to do without any sense of how to piece them together...

They've traded globe-trotting for time travel, but the game's structure remains the same As of the end of Sly 3, the titular raccoon had given up on a life a burglary. He's pulled back in at the start of Thieves in Time when pages begin erasing themselves from the Thievus Raccoonus, his inherited book of stealth skills. Sly reconnects with his ex-partners-in-crime, Bentley — a crafty turtle — and Murray — a brawling hippo. Determining that someone is messing up the timestream, the trio embarks on a time-hopping escapade to save the Cooper family line. The team may have traded globe-trotting for time travel, but the game's structure remains the same: In each era, Sly and crew explore a large, open overworld area that feeds into smaller, more linear levels. Each level...

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time developer Sanzaru Games reached out to animation studio Ghostbot for the game's 2D animated cinematics, and Ghostbot created an animated short that was posted on the PlayStation Blog today. Ghostbot co-founder and director Alan Lau, who called himself "a big fan of the original [Sly Cooper] games," discussed the project in the article. "We wanted to make sure our addition to Sly's journey respected the fun and charm of the original games. At the same time, we wanted to push the quality of the art and animation to the next level as well as bring the audience something they hadn't seen before," he said. According to Lau, Ghostbot took pains to ensure that the look of the 2D animation "integrated with what Sanzaru was doing in 3D" in the game, saying, "We...

The latest trailer for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time breaks down the process of planning and executing one of the game's many time-traveling burglaries, as seen above. To perfectly execute each heist, players will need to plan out and use each character's strengths for maximum efficiency. Sly, Murray and Bentley all have their areas of expertise, like Sly's ability to skulk, Bentley's engineering prowess and Murray's capacity for violence (and, on occasion, seduction). Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time launches on PS3 and PS Vita Feb. 5.
