"Transformed" in the title refers to the game's vehicles, which transform seamlessly from kart to boat to plane throughout each race. While the elements affect the race in unique ways — earth is stable, water ripples into unpredictable and bumpy waves, and airs adds a vertical-axis — the vehicles are consistently easy to handle. The cohesiveness of the game is thanks in part to the central drift mechanic, used to gain boost while cutting tight turns. Drift works on land, over water and in air, and it's intuitive enough to make even the first time racer feel like an expert. If anything, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is more enjoyable free of context In traditional three-lap races, ten competitors barrel through lengthy tracks paved in relics of Sega games both...

Thanks to a December charity drive with Sega, Yogscast's Simon "Honeydew" Lane is now a character in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Honeydew, who is part of the Yogscast network of YouTube producers, arrived in Sumo Digital's cart racer as $5.99 downloadable content available on Steam. All of the proceeds from purchases of DLC will be donated to SpecialEffect, a U.K. charity that helps children with disabilities enjoy video games. To learn more about the game, check out Polygon's Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed review, which calls the racing game "a far better homage to Sega's past than its recent string of remakes and reboots."

Sega is making a bigger push into the mobile space with existing titles such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as well as new titles like Demon Tribe, the publisher announced today. The company's upcoming slate of mobile games includes a remastered version of Sonic 2 that is scheduled to be available on iOS and Android next month. Sonic 2 was released on iOS in April 2010, but that version of the classic platformer doesn't support widescreen or Retina displays. The updated iOS release will be provided as a free update to owners of the existing $2.99 game, and the new version will mark the first time Sonic 2 has been available on Android. Sega is bringing Sumo Digital's Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, last year's well-received multiplatform kart racer, to iOS and Android this winter. The...

Upcoming DLC for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed could feature fan-chosen characters, developer Sumo Digital's Steve Lycett announced in a post on the official Sega forums. If at least 1,000 fans agree on three characters to include in the title by December, Lycett states he will bring these suggestions to Sega to potentially include in the downloadable content. "I'll set you a challenge," he said. "Without any policing from the Sumo or Sega crew, if you can all agree on three characters by the first of December and prove there is sufficient interest of at least 1,000 unique people per character, I will present the result to Sega. "I can't promise anything will happen as a result, but since you're starting it, let's see if you can organise yourselves in the next few weeks to...

Human and professional driver Danica Patrick appears in Sega's new racer Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the focal point of the above live action commercial for the Sumo Digital-developed multiplatform game. Given Patrick's humanness, Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball's AiAi also appear in bizarre live action form. Watch Sonic and Danica trade paint, thanks to dazzling special effects, and question why AiAi would set up a fruit and pie stand in the middle of a highway as you no doubt anticipate the imminent release of Sega's mascot-filled racing game. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be released for Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Nov. 18. A portable version of the game comes to PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS on Dec. 11.
