A demo for Soul Sacrifice, Keiji Inafune's upcoming action role-playing game, will be available in North America on April 16 and in Europe the following day, according to posts on PlayStation's official blogs.
The PlayStation Vita demo "begins in despair," according to Sony Computer Entertainment America producer Kumi Yuasa's blog post. Players will find themselves imprisoned and awaiting sacrifice. A mysterious talking book called Librom appears, speaks of a special power and invites players to read.
"But it's best that we spoil no more than that!" Yuasa wrote.

Check out the trailer above, which was released yesterday on the Japanese PlayStation YouTube channel with a title that translates to "magic battle action." Soul Sacrifice, the latest game from Mega Man, Resident Evil and Dead Rising veteran Keiji Inafune, is scheduled for release in North America on April 30. Pre-orders bonuses announced last month include character costumes, magic items and Japanese audio.

Check out the trailer above to see a handful of Soul Sacrifice's formidable enemies, battle style and environments. The game will include a core mechanic where players can permanently sacrifice body parts in exchange for power or items.

Soul Sacrifice's score was composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and Wataru Hokoyama, and a new video from publisher Sony Computer Entertainment offers a look at the recording at Skywalker Sound of a battle theme from the game.
In the behind-the-scenes video, Hokoyama conducts the orchestra in playing music Mitsuda composed, as Mitsuda watches on. It's a full orchestra along with vocalists and a guitar, for a stirring theme reminiscent of the God of War franchise.
"This was the very first battle music I composed, and I focused on making sure it fit the fighting theme of Soul Sacrifice," said Mitsuda. "The battle style in this game is different from traditional RPGs and action games where the battles are not instantaneous, but rather extensive and you fight for a longer period of time.

Sony has released a video offering a glimpse into the making of the music of Soul Sacrifice.
The behind-the-scenes video includes a number of short interviews with the developers of the PlayStation Vita title, along with the musicians and producers of the game's soundtrack. Take a gander at some of the performances recorded for the game.
Soul Sacrifice is headed to North America next year. A version featuring a red Vita hardware bundle is scheduled to hit Japan on March 7, 2013.
