Humble Double Fine Bundle now includes eight Amnesia Fortnight prototypes, documentary

The good folks at Humble Bundle added nine pieces of bonus content to the Humble Double Fine Bundle today, including eight prototypes that came out of the studio's well-known Amnesia Fortnight sessions. The Humble Double Fine Bundle launched a week ago with a pay-what-you-want price for Psychonauts, Costume Quest and Stacking; those who pay more than the average will receive a copy of Brutal Legend as well, with all games available on Windows PC, Mac or Linux. Buyers also have the option of contributing $35 to become a "slacker backer" of Double Fine's Kickstarted adventure game, Broken Age, or $70 to receive a special Humble Double Fine Bundle T-shirt on top of everything else. Amnesia Fortnight is Double Fine's name for its periodic internal game jams, in which small teams split off...

Double Fine seeking Stacking, Costume Quest rights for 'emotional attachment,' says Tim Schafer

Double Fine wants to acquire the distribution rights for Costume Quest and Stacking, not just for business reasons, but more importantly, because the company has an "emotional attachment" to the games, studio head Tim Schafer told Polygon this weekend. THQ published Costume Quest (2010) and Stacking (2011), and retained the distribution rights to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade versions of the titles. In a brief interview after giving the closing keynote at the inaugural Twofivesix conference, Schafer confirmed that Double Fine attempted to pick up the rights from the now-bankrupt publisher; the studio told Polygon in February that it was "optimistic" about doing so. However, the rights went to Nordic Games last month when the company acquired almost all of the THQ...

Double Fine Humble Bundle brings Brutal Legend, Costume Quest and more to Windows, Mac and Linux

The latest Humble Bundle is all about Double Fine Productions, stuffing in Psychonauts, Costume Quest and Stacking into one pay-what-you-want, DRM-free package for Windows PC, Mac and Linux. And for those PC gamers who pay more than the average, Double Fine and Humble Bundle will throw in Brutal Legend as well. Included in the bundle is the soundtrack to Psychonauts and, for those who beat the average, the original soundtrack to Brutal Legend. And, as long as contributors kick in a dollar or more, Double Fine will offer Steam codes for those games. Double Fine is further sweetening its Humble Bundle deal by adding two flat price options. Those who contribute $35 or more will also become backers of Double Fine's Kickstarter-funded adventure game Broken Age. Those who contribute $70 or...

The future of Darksiders, Red Faction and THQ's other IP at Nordic Games

"I've seen bad experiences with trying to handle creative people," said Wingefors, self-described entrepreneur and owner of Nordic Games Group and Wingefors Invest. "So we don't have any internal developers and I don't intend to." Typically that wouldn't be a problem for a game distributor, but as of yesterday afternoon unofficially, and next month officially, Wingefors' Nordic Games will be the owner of more than 150 individual titles, rights to titles and video game franchises, each the beloved orphan of THQ's steady disintegration. It will be up to Wingefors and his business team in Austria to decide what to do with the likes of MX Vs. ATV, Darksiders, Red Faction, Deadly Creatures, Destroy All Humans, Supreme Commander, Titan Quest, and the list goes on and on. Does he plan to...

Double Fine and Capy teaming up with demos and merchandise at a PAX East booth

Double Fine Productions, developers of Brutal Legend, The Cave and the upcoming Dropchord, is teaming up with Capybara Games, developers of Super Time Force and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, at PAX East this month to share a booth, demo games and sell merchandise, according to posts on the developers' websites. The developers will share booth 992, where Double Fine will be demoing the just-announced Dropchord for the Kinect-like Leap Motion controller and Brutal Legend's recent PC port. Capy will have Super Time Force on hand. The two independent developers will also be selling the Double Fine + Capy Bundle, a group of games from each developer available on Steam and bundled for $34.99. The games include Brutal Legend (currently $19.99), Psychonauts (currently $9.99), Stacking (...

Double Fine optimistic about regaining rights to Costume Quest and Stacking from THQ

THQ's slow but steady dissolution into oblivion continues to be more than mildly confusing. Yesterday, representatives from the company announced that they were kicking off another auction to sell off more of the company's remnant games, rights and IP. The eclectic list of games were bundled together in six batches and included everything from the top-tier Darksiders and Red Faction games to one-offs like Nancy Drew: The Hidden Staircase. The list drew more than a little consternation and confusion from some of the developers behind some of those single title games. A representative for Jellyvision Games, Inc. told Polygon that they own the You Don't Know Jack intellectual property. "In fact, we are successfully publishing the award-winning property on Facebook, iPhone, iPad, and in...
