Disney is closing its LucasArts game development subsidiary, leaving the future of its Star Wars titles in limbo, according to a statement LucasArts released to Polygon. The statement, which was initially obtained by Game Informer and later released to Polygon, reads: "After evaluating our position in the games market, we've decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company's risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we've had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles." Update: When reached for comment, a representative for LucasArts said that while the company does not have any new announcements at this time regarding Star Wars 1313, the information listed on PlayStation Germany's Facebook page is incorrect. "Unfortunately we do not have any announcements to make at this time," the representative told Polygon. "At the same time, it is safe to say that this report is not accurate." At this time PlayStation Germany's Facebook page appears to be down. The original story is posted below. Video game development veteran and former LucasArts president Paul Meegan is Epic Games' new vice president of product development, the company announced today. Meegan is working alongside Epic's executive team and development staff on the Gears of War and Unreal Engine maker's current projects. "Paul's been a friend of the Epic family for years, and we're delighted to have him join the team," said Epic Games president Mike Capps in an announcement. "His experience and leadership will have a huge impact on our mission to deliver great games and great technology." Meegan comes from LucasArts where he served as president of the company for two years. He left the company in August after overseeing the unveiling of next-generation game Star Wars 1313.
