Evil Geniuses drops popular StarCraft 2 player for disrespecting eSports community

Evil Geniuses, one of the leading North American eSports organizations, released well-known StarCraft 2 player Greg "IdrA" Fields today for disrespecting the eSports community in a forum comment. Fields, who had been a part of Evil Geniuses for almost three years, was a controversial fixture in the eSports scene for his negative attitude and hot temper. In response to a half-joking statement suggesting that Fields' outrageous behavior resulted from a perceived need for strong personas in eSports, he wrote (screencap via PCGamesN), "Nope you're all a bunch of fucks. It just so happens I get paid to treat you like it. It's awesome." The Story of StarCraft outlines saga from 1998 beginnings to StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty

Blizzard Entertainment launched a "chapter-by-chapter outline" of StarCraft's lore, beginning with the original StarCraft, called The Story of StarCraft, the company announced via Battle.net. The nine-chapter saga extends to the end of StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty. Each section is a summary of major events, spoilers included, within the game's story. Cinematic images, character and specific game info are also included with each chapter. "If you're looking for a refresher on the history of the Koprulu sector before jumping into a new campaign, or if you're planning to pick up somewhere in the middle, give the story a read," the announcement says. The outline does not include a summary of the latest installment, StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, which launched last month.

MLG's StarCraft 2 WCS America Qualifying Tournament begins this weekend

A series of broadcasts on Twitch.tv for Major League Gaming's StarCraft 2 World Championship Series America Qualifying Tournament will kick off this weekend and continue through next week, according to a press release from MLG. The broadcasts begin Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. ET and will proceed with winners and losers rounds through 10:30 p.m. ET. Sunday's matches focus on the losers brackets, beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET and ending after the final round which begins at 6 p.m. ET. MLG will also broadcast four qualifying matches beginning at 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. You can watch all of this week's matches at MLG's WCS America page on Twitch.tv. Blizzard marks StarCraft's 15th anniversary with achievement, portrait reward, wallpaper

Blizzard Entertainment launched the original StarCraft 15 years ago this weekend, and the studio announced Friday that it is marking the milestone with a new achievement and special rewards for StarCraft 2 players. StarCraft was released March 31, 1998, and from today through 2:59 a.m ET on April 18, 2013, StarCraft 2 players will be able to unlock a new Feat of Strength achievement to earn three portrait rewards featuring the original Protoss, Terran and Zerg StarCraft box art. In order to unlock the achievement and portraits, StarCraft 2 owners will have to play one online game in Arcade, Custom, Ranked, Unranked, Training or Versus A.I. mode. IGN to cancel IPL6 eSports tournament, says report

The IGN Pro League 6 eSports tournament scheduled to take place in Las Vegas later this month will be canceled, according to a report from GameSpot, citing sources. GameSpot reports tournament sponsors are having promotional products returned to them ahead of IPL6 and certain qualifying tournaments have been canceled. The tournament is still currently scheduled to take place at the Cosmopolition of Las Vegas on March 28 to 31, and feature pro players competing in StarCraft 2, League of Legends and ShootMania Storm. If accurate, the tournament's cancellation could leave some pro players and spectators with plane tickets and hotel rooms purchased for an event that no longer exists. StarCraft Universe MMO mod launching through Battle.net

The creators of StarCraft Universe, a massively multiplayer online-styled mod for StarCraft 2, have launched the game's prologue to instruct and introduce players to its single-player gameplay. The mod, which requires a copy of StarCraft 2 to play, has been in development for two years. StarCraft Universe takes place 11 years after the "Utter Darkness" scenario in StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty as part of an alternate timeline. Razer and eSports group Evil Geniuses announce sponsorship agreement

North American eSports company Evil Geniuses has joined Team Razer, the peripheral and accessory manufacturer's eSports organization, in a sponsorship deal the two companies announced today. Razer will serve as Evil Geniuses' official partner for gaming accessories such as mice, keyboards and mouse pads, with the team's roster using Razer gear in all future tournaments. According to Evil Geniuses CEO Alex Garfield, the team also has plans to partner with Razer for Evil Geniuses-branded accessories that fans will be able to buy from Razer. StarCraft 2's first expansion, Heart of the Swarm, includes a host of usability improvements and features designed to bring players closer to the greater StarCraft community, as seen in a developer video released today by Blizzard. Blizzard community manager Kevin Johnson takes viewers through the changes to the game's home screen, which has been redesigned with an eye toward simplification, consistency and usability.
