Strike Suit Zero review: fight or flight

Born Ready eases players into a world of fighters, frigates, cruisers and space stations Strike Suit Zero's premise is a throwback: A future Earth government and its prodigal colonial offshoot are in the midst of an uneasy peace when powerful alien technology is discovered, triggering a war that has the colonists set to wipe out their former taskmasters. As the last remaining elements of Earth's fleet struggle to decipher the mystery of the colonists' new weapon, the only thing keeping the fleet alive is a strange invention from their chief scientist-turned-cybernetic-AI-experiment: the Strike Suit. Born Ready starts things off traditionally, easing players into the setup of a space combat game predicated on fighters, frigates, cruisers and space stations, all of which plays out as...

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut - Overview video

Few genres have fallen off the face of the Earth harder than space combat games. For better and worse, Strike Suit Zero is a revival of the form, bringing the omnidirectional dogfighting (cool!) and repetitive mission structure (less cool!) that the genre was occasionally known for into the modern age. Of course, it's not without innovation; the addition of winged mechs and frequent Itano Circuses are both very, very welcome here. In today's Overview, Arthur and I try out the game's recently released Director's Cut, which hit Xbox One and PlayStation 4 last week. We also discuss our hopes that space games will soon have their Renaissance, and briefly ponder the career trajectory of one Freddie Prinze Jr.

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut hits April 8 on PS4 and Xbox One, PC later

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut will be released April 8 in North America on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $19.99, developer Born Ready Games announced today. European PS4 owners will have to wait until April 9. The Director's Cut will be cheaper on PS4 than Xbox One in the U.K. (£15.39 instead of £15.99) and Europe (€17.99 instead of €19.99). The launch date represents a slight delay from the previously announced release window of March 2014. Born Ready said today on Twitter that the Director's Cut will be available on PC as well; the studio doesn't yet have a concrete release date, but it will be "very close to the console launch." In a new developer diary, Born Ready explained all the changes and upgrades included in the Director's Cut of Strike Suit Zero; the game was originally...
