Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut - Overview video

Few genres have fallen off the face of the Earth harder than space combat games. For better and worse, Strike Suit Zero is a revival of the form, bringing the omnidirectional dogfighting (cool!) and repetitive mission structure (less cool!) that the genre was occasionally known for into the modern age. Of course, it's not without innovation; the addition of winged mechs and frequent Itano Circuses are both very, very welcome here. In today's Overview, Arthur and I try out the game's recently released Director's Cut, which hit Xbox One and PlayStation 4 last week. We also discuss our hopes that space games will soon have their Renaissance, and briefly ponder the career trajectory of one Freddie Prinze Jr.

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut hits April 8 on PS4 and Xbox One, PC later

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut will be released April 8 in North America on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for $19.99, developer Born Ready Games announced today. European PS4 owners will have to wait until April 9. The Director's Cut will be cheaper on PS4 than Xbox One in the U.K. (£15.39 instead of £15.99) and Europe (€17.99 instead of €19.99). The launch date represents a slight delay from the previously announced release window of March 2014. Born Ready said today on Twitter that the Director's Cut will be available on PC as well; the studio doesn't yet have a concrete release date, but it will be "very close to the console launch." In a new developer diary, Born Ready explained all the changes and upgrades included in the Director's Cut of Strike Suit Zero; the game was originally...

ID@Xbox trailer presents the indie games coming to Xbox One

Xbox One's ID@Xbox program for independent games development started certifying its first games last month, and now Xbox is giving a preview of the games to come with this trailer spotlighting four of them. They are: Super Time Force, the well known platformer Capybara Games has been building since 2011. Strike Suit Zero, a space combat game which swaps between a cockpit perspective and a third-person view when the fighter transforms into a mecha. Born Ready Games is the developer. It Draws a Red Box, or IDARB, a bizarre 8-player game by Other Ocean, which blends sports, platforming and fighting games such as the Smash Bros. series. Spectra: 8bit Racing, a procedural racing game inspired by F-Zero, coming from Gateway Interactive. And FRU, a platformer from Through Games that...

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut hits PS4, Xbox One next month

Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut, an enhanced version of developer Born Ready Games' space flight combat game with bonus features, will launch in March for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to a tweet from the game's official account. The Director's Cut will include a slightly different campaign from the PC version. The first handful of missions from the campaign has been rearranged to get players into the pilot's seat of their Strike Suits earlier in the storyline, which has also been tweaked and given new dialogue. This version will also feature souped-up graphics and upscaled ships, lighting and textures. The PS4 and Xbox One versions include bonus add-on content: the Heroes of the Fleet mission pack, which includes five new missions, and the Maradaur and Raptor Strike Suits. S...

Strike Suit Infinity launches today alongside a brand-new trailer

Strike Suit Infinity, the standalone expansion to space mech combat game Strike Suit Zero, hits Steam today with a launch trailer to commemorate the occasion. As the name might suggest, Infinity is a survival-type game in which the player's forces are tested against increasingly deadly waves of enemies, with defeat being a question of when, not if. Players will be able to pilot and upgrade one of three Strike Suit mechs and purchase reinforcements and other weaponry to stand a better chance at holding out just that much longer. Strike Suit Infinity is now available on Steam for $6.99.

Strike Suit Zero patch adding difficulty settings, checkpoint saves and cockpit view

Strike Suit Zero developer Born Ready Games released the space combat title's third patch today, adding fan-requested content such as difficulty settings and a cockpit view, the studio announced today. With the first major update since Strike Suit Zero's launch in January, Born Ready is responding to requests and criticism from fans and reviews about the game's difficulty curve. Three difficulty levels will now be available — Easy, Normal and Hardcore — and the studio has also leveled out some of the game's difficulty spikes. And Born Ready also added the ability to save at a checkpoint, exit the game and return to that point. The other new elements in the patch are an in-cockpit camera for every ship in the game, and a tweaked targeting system that allows players to cycle through...

Strike Suit Zero now available on PC, coming to Mac and Linux this year

Strike Suit Zero, Born Ready Games' space combat title featuring transforming mechanical suits, is now available on Windows PC, and it will launch on Mac and Linux later this year, the studio announced today. Born Ready raised nearly $175,000 in a Kickstarter campaign last fall, but fell just short of a stretch goal that would have unlocked Mac and Linux versions of the game. However, the studio is pushing forward with development on those platforms anyway. The company previously confirmed support for the Oculus Rift headset. "We've received overwhelming support from our community, and would like to extend special thanks to our backers on Kickstarter," said Born Ready CEO James Brooksby. "We hope everyone is as ecstatic to see the finished result as we are!" Strike Suit Zero is being...
