Buy a 3DS XL and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or Luigi's Mansion, get a 3DS game voucher

Nintendo is offering folks who purchase and register a Nintendo 3DS XL and either Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon or Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity a free downloadable voucher for an additional title, the company announced today in a press release. After buying and registering the handheld and game, shoppers will be able to choose between one of five games to add to their collection at no cost. Those games are Super Mario 3D Land, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!, Star Fox 64 3D or Freakyforms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive!. The promotion will be available from March 21 through April 30, though the two titles which activate the deal — Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Luigi's Mansion — won't hit store shelves until March 24.

Nintendo studio Brownie Brown rebranding as 1-Up Studio

Brownie Brown, the Nintendo-owned studio that co-developed games such as Mother 3 and Super Mario 3D Land, is rebranding itself as 1-Up Studio, the company announced today. Brownie Brown was founded in 2000 as a Nintendo subsidiary by former members of Square, the Japanese company behind franchises such as Final Fantasy and Mana. The company has only developed games for Nintendo handhelds, from the Game Boy Advance through the 3DS. In addition to making Nintendo games such as the aforementioned titles, Brownie Brown has worked on games with outside developers and publishers, including Heroes of Mana with Square Enix and Professor Layton and the Last Specter with Level-5. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the first 3DS game in Japan to surpass two million sales

Animal Crossing: New Leaf, sold two million copies in its first two months of release, making it the first Nintendo 3DS title to ever crack the two million mark, Japanese games industry magazine Famitsu reports via Tiny Cartridge. The game has sold 2.1 million units, which puts it ahead of other 3DS titles like Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Monster Hunter 3G, and New Super Mario Bros. 2. The sales for Animal Crossing: New Leaf also eclipse those of the best-selling PlayStation 3 game — Final Fantasy 13, which sold 1.9 million copies in Japan. Animal Crossing: New Leaf still falls behind the best-selling game on the Nintendo Wii — New Super Mario Bros. Wii, which sold 4.4 million copies in Japan.

Get Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed on Flame Red 3DS for $169.99 starting Black Friday

A limited-edition 3DS bundle will be available for the holiday season: a Flame Red 3DS with Super Mario 3D Land pre-installed for $169.99, Nintendo announced today. The package offers a savings of $39.99, the cost of Super Mario 3D Land alone, since the 3DS's regular price is $169.99. Super Mario 3D Land originally launched in November 2011. An image of the bundle can be seen above — it doesn't appear that the 3DS itself is customized with any Mario branding. Some retailers, including Toys R Us and GameStop, already had the Super Mario 3D Land bundle listed among their Black Friday deals. Best Buy and Target will offer an additional $20 off the 3DS.

Limited edition Pikachu 3DS XL coming to U.K. Dec. 7

A limited edition Pikachu-themed 3DS XL that Nintendo announced back in October is releasing in the U.K. on Dec. 7. The bright yellow handheld console will join a limited edition all-white 3DS XL that will come pre-loaded with Mario Kart 7, which will be available from Nov. 16, and an all-white 3DS XL that will come pre-loaded with Super Mario 3D Land, which will be out Nov. 30. The Pikachu 3DS XL was on sale earlier this year at select Japanese retailers. There is currently no word on whether the Pikachu handheld will be available in other territories.

Nintendo releasing three special Mario 3DS XL designs for Chinese market

Chinese company iQue (Nintendo's local branding) will be bringing three special Nintendo 3DS XL consoles to the Chinese market this December, according to a listing found by Kotaku. The three 3DS XL designs will be limited edition and come in "Mario White", "Mario Silver" and "Mario Red Gold". The consoles will come pre-installed with Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. A specific launch date and price is yet to be announced.

3DS sales 'weaker than expected' outside Japan, Nintendo lowers annual profit forecast

Nintendo is lowering its annual profit forecast after recording a larger than expected loss for the first six months of the fiscal year, having reported "weaker than expected" sales of the Nintendo 3DS outside of Japan. The company's forecast for the 2013 fiscal year has lowered from ¥20 billion, or roughly $250.6 million in profits, to ¥6 billion, or roughly $75.2 million, despite seeing 5.6 million 3DS units sold during the first half of the fiscal year and 19.03 million software sales. Nintendo however made a smaller loss throughout the six months ending September 2012 in comparison to the same period last year. Gradius, 3DS hits come to Nintendo eShop today

Konami's side-scrolling shooter Gradius along with several popular 3DS hits have arrived in the Nintendo eSHop, Nintendo announced today. Gradius was first published in 1985 for arcades and home computers, with ports spanning various platforms, including its inclusion in the Gradius Collection in 2006 for PlayStation Portable and on Wii Virtual Console in 2008. Also hitting the eShop today are digital re-releases of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Mario Kart 7, Star Fox 64 3D, and Super Mario 3D Land, as well Sparkle Snapshots 3D, a program that allows players to personalize 2D photos taken with the 3DS camera. 3DS owners can also download Moshi Monsters Moshlings Theme Park, Puzzler World XL, and a new Halloween-themed Nintendo Video, "Dinosaur Office: Halloween...

Nintendo first-party retail 3DS games coming to North American eShop on Oct. 18

Super Mario 3D Land, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, and Mario Kart 7 comprise the initial batch of Nintendo's first-party 3DS titles coming to the North American eShop. Each game will be available for purchase on Nintendo's digital store for $39.99 on Oct. 18. Those games are among the list of first-party titles set to go up on the Japanese eShop on Nov. 1. According to Nintendo, more retail-only first-party 3DS games will be available in the 3DS eShop "in the future."

Mario Tennis Open, Starfox 64 3D, Ocarina of Time coming to Nintendo's Japanese eShop

Nintendo's eShop in Japan will be getting a few older 3DS retail releases this November, the publisher announced today during a mini Nintendo Direct for Japan. Among the titles that will be getting an eShop release on November 1st include: Mario Tennis Open, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, Starfox 64 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Pilotwings Resort. A Nintendo Direct for Europe will broastcast on Thursday, October 4th.
