Tank! Tank! Tank! review: running on empty

The structure is clearly intended for arcades, where players spend a dollar for a minute, then never play the game again The abominable campaign mode can be played solo or co-op and strings together a series of tank-versus-monster battles inspired by the Godzilla universe. You play as a tiny tank, collecting weapon power-ups and firing on the city's unwanted visitors — invaders such as a robo-gorilla, a frothy kraken and super-sized hornets. Each enemy has unique attacks, but the player's strategy for destruction stays the same: Face the tank toward enemies and mash the fire button. The structure is clearly intended for arcades, where players spend a dollar for a minute of monster-shooting novelty, then never play the game again. It grows dull after more than a few...

Japan Review Check: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

A quick look at the highlights among the games coming out in Japan this coming week, courtesy the review pages of Famitsu magazine: - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (9/10/10/10, 39 out of 40 points): The major release of the week (a PS3 exclusive in Japan for now) misses a perfect score by a mere point. "The game is balanced so exquisitely that even casual users can enjoy this," wrote editor Atsuhiro Fujiwara. "The high-speed battles are thrilling, and the ability to parry enemy attacks is superbly done. You can use stealth to get through missions as well, but if not, there's a ton of cool-looking moves you can pull off. The boss-class characters really stick out in my mind; I just wish there were more of them." "It felt pretty tough overall at first," added writer Ranbu Yoshida,...

Tank! Tank! Tank! goes free-to-play in Japan

Wii U launch title Tank! Tank! Tank! is adopting a free-to-play model in Japan, offering a basic pack for free and charging money for add-ons, according to Siliconera. Siliconera reports that Namco Bandai opted for a free-to-play model because the game has not taken off in Japan in the way its developers had hoped. Tank! for free from the Nintendo eShop. The basic pack allows players to access the city map and play in three modes: Free for All, Team Battle and Giant Monster. 'Tank! Tank! Tank!' lets Wii U players become a tank-crushing Kong

Japanese "battle party" game Tank! Tank! Tank! will bring its four-player tank battles to the Wii U — pitting tank against tank — armed with an all-new game mode named "My Kong." The asymmetric multiplayer mode gives one player control of both the Wii U GamePad and a massive robotic ape hellbent on tank destruction. Three other players control a bright green tank with a Wii Remote, launching turret fire at the rampaging Kong. While those three must work together to grab power ups while avoiding robo-ape punches. The player driving the Kong simply wreaks havoc, punching the ground, jostling the Wii U GamePad to butt-slam wee tanks, and shaking the touchpad controller side to side to engage a hyper-destructive rage mode. It's briefly fun stuff; a good, clean, family-friendly...
