A new trailer released for Terraria's free 1.2 update offers a look at the game's new content. Terraria is a mix of Minecraft and Metroid that charges players with the task of digging, crafting, building and exploring a strange world. The update will add new weapons, items, enemies and features. Check out the trailer above for a look at Terraria's gameplay. Terraria's 1.2 update will be available for Windows PC via Steam Oct. 1. Terraria's major 1.2 update hits Oct. 1, according to a tweet from developer Re-Logic's Andrew Spinks. "The news you have all been waiting for ... The update will be out on October 1st!" he tweeted last night. The overhaul to the 2D sandbox can be seen in a video that hit over the summer, posted above. More details are expected, including a new trailer, in the coming weeks. The update comes nearly two years after developers said they had released the last update for the game. The update will be free through Stream to all Terraria owners, Spinks said via Twitter.

Re-Logic released a video preview outlining the new game mechanics featured in Terraria's 1.2 update for Windows PC. The sandbox adventure game first launched on Windows PC in May, 2011. In early 2012, Re-Logic announced that it would cease rolling updates for the PC version beginning February that year; however, a year later, developer Andrew Spinks asked the Terraria community what features they would like in future PC updates. Around the same time in January, 505 Games announced that the game will launch on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 in March. The console version included new maps, weapons, armor, enemies, the ability to play in split-screen mode and online multiplayer. 505 Games announced today that the formerly PC-exclusive action-adventure role-playing game Terraria is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network this year. The console version will include everything in the PC version with the addition of new maps, weapons, armor, enemies, the ability to play in split-screen mode and online multiplayer. The above video shows some of the new features players can expect to see in the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases coming later this year.
