Bethesda to make 'considerably more noise' in 2013 as a publisher

Bethesda aim to make "considerably more noise" in 2013 "as a publisher," the company's vice president Peter Hines said in an OXM podcast. "I think you'll hear us making considerably more noise this year than we did last year, as a publisher," he told OXM. "Obviously the Elder Scrolls Online is out and we've got the Dishonored DLC, but we will be announcing new stuff and making some noise, and I think when we get the chance to show you guys what we're up to, that you'll sit up and take notice." Hines went on to say "people will get really excited" when Bethesda reveals what it is up to, and that it is "continuing to push the boundaries, reinvent" and working with "passionate teams who know what they're doing." "So who that is, and what they're doing is TBD," Hines said. Polygon...

How Elder Scrolls Online is trying to be more like The Elder Scrolls

So after all of this, when I heard Firor announce "one more thing" โ€“ a phrase magically transformed by Apple's Steve Jobs into a declaration of innovation โ€“ I had an idea of what he was about to share. Because I had been waiting for it all day. "Up until now, basically everything, every video that we've shown, all our beta sessions, were all done using third-person camera," Firor explained. "You could roll into first-person, but it wasn't kind of the traditional Elder Scrolls first-person experience that you all know and love. Because [...] one of our pillars that we talked about this morning is that you sit down and play the game, you want to make sure it feels like an Elder Scrolls game, so here's something we've been working on." And then Firor showed a video that looked a lot...

'The Elder Scrolls Online' will let you play in 100-player groups

The Elder Scrolls always lent itself to an open massively multiplayer space, according to Nick Konkle, lead combat designer for The Elder Scrolls Online, ZeniMax Online Studios' upcoming MMO. "I'll tell you what," he says, "it definitely started from the IP itself really lending itself to being in an open space. It's got this open world feel where you can explore the world, do what you want to do and become who you want to become. And I feel that that translates really well to an MMO." Taking a page from the single player games that strived to allow players to go where they pleased at any given point, ZeniMax Online Studios would re-work the concept of vast and explorable regions and populate them with other players. The new game would feature its own narrative that would be "100...

E3 2012: The MMOs

This year's upcoming massively multiplayer online games will take us on adventures from civilizations in their infancy on alien planets to bullet-fueled reality shows. There's a startling lack of fantasy in this otherwise fantasy-filled genre: Elder Scrolls fans get a trip back to in time with The Elder Scrolls Online, and Neverwinter is repping the D&D set, but beyond that, it's all foreign planets, post-apocalyptic Earth, and alien hordes. This year at E3, we'll be sorting all of our news and previews from the event into easily consumable genre streams. This round-up of expected games kicks off our MMO stream. Of course, you'll still be able to follow our coverage of the big press conferences, show floor spectacles and everything in between - but if you're only interested in the MMO...
