The Elder Scrolls Online Review: other people

by Justin McElroy & Phil Kollar Justin McElroy, Elder Scrolls Fan My fear, when I first heard about The Elder Scrolls Online, was shared by a lot of fans of the series, I'd imagine. Could an MMO game really capture the spirit of a sprawling, thrilling (and often lonely) open-world adventure that I'd grown to love the Elder Scrolls series for? After some 40 hours of playtime and over 40 levels split between different characters, I can now give the concrete and unqualified answer to that most pressing question: ... Sort of? The Elder Scrolls Online is the newest entry in the series, but as it's set in the Second Era (as opposed the the Third Era seen in the first four main Elder Scrolls games) it's actually the earliest, chronologically speaking. At the risk of...

The Elder Scrolls Online's guild bank disabled

The Elder Scrolls Online developer Zenimax Online Studios disabled the game's guild bank feature today on European and North American servers, according to a post on the game's official forums. The developers did not explain why the guild bank feature was disabled in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game or when players might expect it to return. The halt could be in response to a bug that Reddit user Mistress-Rarity described earlier today. "Some of you may already be aware," Mistress-Rarity wrote, "but a game breaking bug has hit ESO that allows characters to duplicate stacks of materials in their bank. It is so simple, in fact, that it is possible to do it by pure accident. I will not explain this exploit, but it is the first result of googling 'ESO Item Dupe.'" The...

The Elder Scrolls Online - Overview video

As we discussed in our Overview of The Elder Scrolls Online's beta test phase, the new MMO lets you craft a character with few restrictions. In Justin's case, that meant he could birth K'evin, a svelte, rogue-ish hero with a penchant for ranged weapons, and an unnatural aversion to melee combat. His other hobbies include making birdhouses for Tamriel's avian population, as well as performing impossible, deadly horse stunts. He's not the hero we need or deserve, but for now, K'evin's the best we've got. In this Overview, Justin and I dive deep into the subjects that slipped our grasp in Overview the First — topics such as crafting, Player vs. Player content and runic literacy. We also showcase K'evin's unswerving bravery, which helps us get intimately familiar with Elder Scrolls Online'...

The Elder Scrolls Online is available today for Mac and Windows PC, and to commemorate the massively multiplayer online role-playing game's launch, developer ZeniMax has shared a new cinematic trailer for the title. The Elder Scrolls Online is slated to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this June.

The Elder Scrolls Online players will have more challenges past the level cap

The Elder Scrolls Online players who reach the level 50 cap will have plenty of Veteran Ranks content to keep them busy, according to creative director Paul Sage. In a post on the ESO blog, Sage details the challenges in Tamriel only available to those with Veteran Ranks, players who reach their progression peak. Players at level 50 can head into Cyrodiil, ESO's player-versus-player zone, alone or with a friend to quest for loot and collect resources. Smaller groups called "gank squads" can also roam the PvP zone commandeering farms and other resource points and taking on small hordes of roaming enemies. This training will make these groups invaluable to the Alliance War, ESO's ongoing plot thread. Larger PvP groups can perform sieges or sabotage enemies by cutting of supply lines....
