The Swapper review: impossible soul

Clones act as vessels inhabited via swapping On a skeletal level, The Swapper is a puzzle game in which an astronaut uses the titular Swapper device to create and control clones. The astronaut can materialize up to four clones at a time anywhere within her line of sight, and the clones will mirror her movements: she walks, they walk; she jumps, they jump; she dies, they die. The clones act as empty vessels that can be inhabited via "swapping" — a technique akin to firing one's soul like a bullet into another body. This trick is best understood through an example. Say the astronaut needs to reach a platform hundreds of feet beneath a cliff. She must leap from the cliff then quickly create and teleport into a clone on the platform far below, leaving the old, empty body to fall and...

The Swapper coming to Wii U later this year

Curve Digital will release its atmospheric puzzle-platformer, The Swapper, for Wii U "later this year," the developer announced via Twitter. The Swapper takes place in an abandoned space station; players clone themselves to solve puzzles and progress. Kotaku reports that the controls have been re-configured for the GamePad, and that the Wii U version will include a touch-only mode. According to a follow-up tweet to the original announcement from Curve, the Wii U edition will be "much closer" to the PlayStation 4 version than the PlayStation 3 version in terms of visuals. The Swapper is currently available for Linux, Mac and Windows PC. The PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita editions of the game are expected to hit Aug. 5. The Swapper delayed to Aug. 5 for PlayStation platforms

Puzzle-platformer The Swapper has been delayed from its June 24 launch on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita and will now be available Aug. 5 in North America and Aug. 6 in Europe, developer Curve Digital announced today. The delay will help polish the ports, "which have required extra optimization." According to managing director Jason Perkins, The Swapper is the first indie title "to really push the limits of the PlayStation 3 and Vita. "We've been able to really throw the power of the PS4 at the game," Perkins said, "but we also want to ensure that when the game comes out, it looks great and runs well at 30 FPS on hardware that, in the case of the PlayStation 3, is over seven years old." This marks the second delay for the game, which was originally said to launch...
