By Emily Gera on Nov 07, 2012 11.07.12
The Witcher series, based on the fantasy novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski, can never be considered an alternate version or sequel of the written work of which they are adapted from, Sapkowski told Eurogamer. According to Sapkowski, while developer CD Project Red drew from the literary works, the video game adaptations are in the end a "free adaptation" simply containing elements of the novels and are neither a prequel nor a sequel to the stories. "The game — with all due respect to it, but let's finally say it openly — is not an 'alternative version', nor a sequel. The game is a free adaptation containing elements of my work; an adaptation created by different authors," said Sapkowski. 'The Witcher 2' sold 1.7 million on PC and consoles
By Griffin McElroy on May 30, 2012 05.30.12
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has sold 1.7 million units across its original PC release and its "Enhanced Edition" console versions. The announcement came during developer CD Projekt Red's Summer 2012 conference, alongside a video of each of the studio's employees thanking fans for their purchases. The game will be released in Japan on August 23rd, and on Mac this fall. Folks who haven't made the leap yet can purchase The Witcher 2 on the DRM-free GOG.com platform for $29.99, a 40 temporary percent discount off the regular price. The funds earned from those 1.7 million sales are being reinvested into the development of two new "AAA role-playing" titles, one of which is expected to be announced later this press conference.
