Electronic Arts and Tiger Woods have come to a mutual decision to end their partnership for the long-running Tiger Woods PGA Tour series of golf games, the publisher announced today. EA is developing a golf title for next-generation consoles as well as mobile platforms, and will continue to work with the PGA Tour organization for those games. "We've always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors," said Daryl Holt, vice president and general manager of golf for EA Sports, in a post on EA's The Beat blog. "Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA Tour exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong." Holt also provided the first images of EA's next-generation golf game: a screenshot of the...

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14, NCAA Football 14 and NHL 14 won't be released on next-generation consoles this year, Electronic Arts representatives confirmed to Polygon this week. EA announced earlier this week that four of its upcoming sports titles — Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, NBA Live 14 and EA Sports UFC — will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One within the next 12 months. All of them will be powered by the same engine: EA Sports Ignite, the single technology base for all of EA's sports games on next-generation consoles. But when Andrew Wilson, executive vice president of EA Sports, unveiled the engine with pre-rendered target footage during Microsoft's Xbox One reveal event on Tuesday, he only listed those four games. EA has three other annual sports titles: Tiger Woods PGA Tour,...

Electronic Arts will not release Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 or an Ultimate Fighting Championship game before April 2014, the company confirmed with Joystiq. During EA's earnings call, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau listed 11 titles EA expected to launch in its 2014 fiscal year, omitting Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 and EA Sports UFC, Joystiq reported. However, EA later confirmed with the publication that both titles are "still in development." This will be the first time in four years that the golfing game will break from its usual launch window. From Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 in 2011, up until Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 in 2013, the golfing simulation game usually launched in late March. EA announced during its E3 press conference last year that it entered a multi-year, multi-product deal ...

A demo for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 is now available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, allowing players to unlock professional golfing legend Arnold Palmer as a playable character for the full game, EA announced today. The demo lets players try out the Legends of the Majors mode, which replays classic moments from major tournaments in golf history. The demo features the 1961 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale and gives players control of Palmer. Completing the challenge will allow players to use Palmer immediately with PGA Tour 14 at launch. Players can take a brief foray into the game's inclusion of the Ladies Professional Golf Association through the Quick Tournaments feature, and grants access to playable character Lexi Thompson, the youngest golfer to ever win the LPGA tournament,...

A number of major 2013 games are launching in March, and Sony is sweetening the release schedule with a cash back offer: For every $50 you spend in the PlayStation Store next month, you'll get $10 back in PlayStation Network credit. The offer is valid to PSN users in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and although Sony's advertising it as taking place in the month of March, it has already begun. PlayStation Store purchases from today, Feb. 26, through April 1 will count toward the promotion. That also applies to renewing an annual PlayStation Plus subscription for $49.99: According to Pierre Gravereau, senior manager of digital distribution, you won't need to spend the extra penny to get $10 back. And there doesn't appear to be a limit to the amount of cash back you can accumulate. So if...

While golf is a centuries-old sport, the modern game dates back to the mid-19th century; the first major tournament, the Open Championship (or British Open), debuted in 1860. Of course, the sport has changed significantly since then. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 players will be able to engage with golf history in Legends of the Majors, a new single-player mode. It begins in the late 1800s and runs to the present, letting players relive classic moments from major tournaments and experience the transformation of the sport — fashion, equipment, broadcast styles and more — over that span. "It's pretty much like stepping in a time machine," said Mike DeVault, PGA Tour 14's lead designer, in a recent interview with Polygon. Like the Tiger Legacy Challenge in PGA Tour 13, Legends of the...
