1 CommentEA will not release Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15, UFC fighting game before March 2014
By Jenna Pitcher on May 08, 2013 05.08.13
Electronic Arts will not release Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 or an Ultimate Fighting Championship game before March 2014, the company confirmed with Joystiq. During EA's earnings call, president of EA Labels Frank Gibeau listed 11 titles EA expected to launch in its 2014 fiscal year, omitting Tiger Woods PGA Tour 15 and a UFC title, Joystiq reported. However, EA later confirmed with the publication that both titles are "still in development." This will be the first time in four years that the golfing game will break from its usual launch window. From Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 in 2011, up until Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 in 2013, the golfing simulation game usually launched in late March. EA announced during its E3 press conference last year that it entered a multi-year multi-product deal ...

15 CommentsSony offers $10 PSN credit for every $50 spent in March
By Samit Sarkar on Feb 26, 2013 02.26.13
A number of major 2013 games are launching in March, and Sony is sweetening the release schedule with a cash back offer: For every $50 you spend in the PlayStation Store next month, you'll get $10 back in PlayStation Network credit. The offer is valid to PSN users in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and although Sony's advertising it as taking place in the month of March, it has already begun. PlayStation Store purchases from today, Feb. 26, through April 1 will count toward the promotion. That also applies to renewing an annual PlayStation Plus subscription for $49.99: According to Pierre Gravereau, senior manager of digital distribution, you won't need to spend the extra penny to get $10 back. And there doesn't appear to be a limit to the amount of cash back you can accumulate. So if...

4 CommentsGoing back in time with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14's Legends of the Majors mode
By Samit Sarkar on Feb 18, 2013 02.18.13
While golf is a centuries-old sport, the modern game dates back to the mid-19th century; the first major tournament, the Open Championship (or British Open), debuted in 1860. Of course, the sport has changed significantly since then. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 players will be able to engage with golf history in Legends of the Majors, a new single-player mode. It begins in the late 1800s and runs to the present, letting players relive classic moments from major tournaments and experience the transformation of the sport — fashion, equipment, broadcast styles and more — over that span. "It's pretty much like stepping in a time machine," said Mike DeVault, PGA Tour 14's lead designer, in a recent interview with Polygon. Like the Tiger Legacy Challenge in PGA Tour 13, Legends of the...

8 CommentsTiger Woods PGA Tour 14 devs 'looking to add drama' with presentation overhaul
By Samit Sarkar on Feb 11, 2013 02.11.13
If you're not a golf fan, you may find it boring, and indeed, golf tends to be a far more reserved endeavor than the bombastic pageantry seen in sports like football. But at its best — as in the final round of a major tournament, with only a few strokes separating the contenders — it can be as tense and thrilling as any sport. Conveying the excitement of golf is an area in which Electronic Arts' Tiger Woods PGA Tour series has struggled for a long time. Although the past couple of entries in the franchise brought the grandeur of The Masters to life, the series as a whole has suffered from lackluster presentation. Developer EA Tiburon is aware of its previous missteps, and according to lead designer Mike DeVault, everything will change this year with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14. In a...

1 CommentTiger Woods PGA Tour 14 dev eliminating Course Mastery system, offering paid DLC courses only
By Samit Sarkar on Feb 06, 2013 02.06.13
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 won't offer last year's poorly received Course Mastery system for earning free access to downloadable courses; instead, those courses will only be available for purchase in the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store, reports IGN. "We've taken that [Course Mastery] system out and are using a more traditional DLC approach," said lead designer Mike DeVault. Prior to 2012's Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13, publisher Electronic Arts typically released Tiger Woods games with upwards of 16 courses on the disc and put up additional downloadable courses for sale. Last year, the company introduced a system called Course Mastery that made those add-on courses free-to-play in a sense: You would rack up Coins by playing PGA Tour 13, and could spend that in-game currency to...

By Samit Sarkar on Dec 06, 2012 12.06.12
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 will be available in a collector's edition, the Masters Historic Edition, with cover artwork featuring golf legend Bobby Jones and 2012 Masters champion Bubba Watson, publisher Electronic Arts announced today. The Masters Historic Edition will include 26 courses, six more than the standard edition: five extra championship courses, and the smaller Par 3 course at Augusta National. One of the five is the standard Augusta National course but in its 1934 incarnation, the first year in which the Masters tournament was played.
