Ubisoft already has a few movie projects in development, namely Assassin's Creed, starring Michael Fassbender and Splinter Cell, starring Tom Hardy, but won't be the end of the game company's filmic aspirations. Seems that Ghost Recon is next on the docket for a game-to-movie translation. A report in the LA Times states that Jean-Julien Baronnet, the chief executive of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, is "putting together a pitch for a movie based on the Ghost Recon games about a special operations military squad. The Ghost Recon games have never had extraordinarily fleshed-out characters or backstories. Ubisoft estimates it sold more than 3.5 million copies of Assassin's Creed 3 during the game's first week of availability, according to the company's financial report for the first half of its 2012-13 fiscal year. The figure is more than double the number of sales from Assassin's Creed: Revelations' first week in 2011, the report said. Ubisoft's first financial half-year ended on Sept. 30. So while the company's earnings report doesn't factor in Assassin's Creed 3 sales, the game's significant marketing costs — along with those for Ubisoft's other third-quarter releases, including Far Cry 3 — raised selling expenses and led to a current operating loss of €58.1 million ($74.4 million). Ghost Recon Commander, the action-oriented Facebook game and mobile app, was canceled today and the team of 15 working on the game laid off, according to the game's developer. "Sad news," Brenda Brathwaite, COO of developer Loot Drop tweeted. "Today, Ghost Recon Commander was canceled. As a result, we laid off a team of kick-ass developers. If you have openings, ping me." Brathwaite, who over the weekend married John Romero, told Polygon that the two cut their honeymoon short to return to their San Bruno, California-based studios and break the news to the team in person. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be getting a Season Pass exclusive to the game's PC version, publisher Ubisoft announced today. The pass is available for $24.99 and grants players access to all future downloadable content at $10 off the overall price. Th Season Pass includes the multiplayer add-on Arctic Strike Map Pack, available today. This new content includes three multiplayer maps, one co-op map, the new "Stockade" multiplayer mode, six additional weapons and a level cap bump. The pack can be purchased individually for $9.99. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is currently out for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Polygon has reached out to Ubisoft to determine why downloadable content as well as Season Pass programs are not available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
